Xenia’s Reichert turns a hat trick

SPRINGFIELD — Xenia claimed a 4-1 win over Springfield, thanks in part to a hat trick by senior Connor Reichert. Two minutes into the match, Reichert scored the first goal. Reichert set the tone with two more goals for a first-half hat trick.

Girls Tennis

Skyhawks fall on the road

TROY — The Fairborn Girls Tennis team traveled to Troy on Thursday to face the Trojans. Troy has a strong team and the scores definitely backed that up as the Trojans swept the match 5-0.

Brooklyn Hunter faced perhaps her toughest opponent of the season in Hannah Essick of Troy. Hunter played some of her best tennis of the season but still fell 1-6 and 1-6.

Acadia Wulf was matched up against Maggie Hennessy and she too played well but came out on the wrong side of a 1-6 and 0-6 decision.

Kyla Secrest returned to the number 3 singles spot only to face Ashley Bruns, who took a 6-2 and 6-2 win.

Illness impacted the Lady Skyhawks doubles teams, as both Shayna Osborne and Dakota Thacker missed the trip.

Moving up to first doubles was Megan Koonce who teamed with Preslee Chapman to put up a strong fight, but they eventually fell by 3-6 and 2-6 scores to Meredith Pruitt and Lacy Scancarello.

Adele Bowling and Isa Smith made their first appearance together at #2 doubles and they faced off against Jackie Fulker and Katie Sherrick. Their first varsity match ended in a 1-6 and -0-6 loss for Bowling and Smith.

After a busy couple of weeks, the Skyhawks have some time off before playing on Tuesday next week when they travel to West Carollton.

Raiders release women’s basketball schedule

FAIRBORN — Sixteen regular-season home games, including matchups with Butler and Georgia, along with a game at Miami (Fla.) and the Lone Star Showcase highlight the 2015-16 women’s basketball schedule, released on Friday.

The Raiders, under sixth-year head coach Mike Bradbury, host Indiana Wesleyan in exhibition action on Saturday, Oct. 31, before opening the regular season on Nov.13, against the Miami Hurricanes in Coral Gables, Fla. WSU visits Kent State on Nov. 17, before opening the regular-season home portion of its schedule with Lipscomb on Nov. 19, Austin Peay on Nov. 21, and Southeastern Louisiana on Nov. 23.

Wright State then heads to Cedar Park, Texas, just outside of Austin, for the Lone Star Showcase at the Cedar Park Center. The Raiders face Big Ten power Iowa in the opener on Nov. 26, followed by Houston on Nov. 27, and defending Atlantic 10 champion George Washington on Nov. 28.

WSU opens December at home against former league opponent Butler, Dec. 4, with the Raider men’s team also hosting Georgia State that evening. The Butler contest starts a stretch where Wright State will host five of six games during the month, with the only road game being at Eastern Kentucky on Dec. 13.

The Raiders wrap up the nonleague portion of their schedule on Dec. 20, with a matchup against Southeastern Conference opponent Georgia. Like the Butler game, the contest with Georgia will be part of a doubleheader with the WSU men’s team as they face Bowling Green.

The remainder of the schedule is the Horizon League slate, now at 18 games with the addition this season of Northern Kentucky. League play begins on Dec. 30, as the Raiders welcome in Illinois-Chicago.

For the first time since 2001, the entire Horizon League Tournament will be played at one site as it begins on March 10, at the Kress Events Center in Green Bay, Wisc. The finals set for March 13, a day before the NCAA pairings are announced.

Wright State, which finished 25-9 and made its first-ever appearance in the WNIT, will face seven teams that advanced to postseason tournaments last season (George Washington, Green Bay, Iowa and Miami (Fla.) in the NCAA; Cleveland State and Youngstown State in the WNIT; Northern Kentucky in the WBI).
