Hot Chocolate race open for registration

Fairborn beats Wayne, 5-0

FAIRBORN — The Skyhawks girls tennis opened the 2015 season with a 5-0 victory over Wayne, Tuesday night. It was the first varsity match played on the new blue courts at Community Park and the Skyhawks featured an all-junior lineup led by Brooklyn Hunter, Kyla Secrest and five first-time varsity players.

Acadia Wulf got the Skyhawks off to a great start with a quick 6-0, 6-0 win over Kristen Hooker of Wayne. Secrest followed shortly afterwards as she defeated Lauren Smith 6-3, 6-1.

The clincher for Fairborn was no. 1 doubles, where Preslee Chapman and Shayna Osborne rolled past Emily Miller and Ameera Salah 6-1, 6-1 to wrap up the win for the Skyhawks.

Hunter defeated Sidney Bailey 6-3, 6-3 in a clash of no. 1 singles players, and the final match of the night saw Fairborn’s no. 2 doubles team of Dakota Thacker and Megan Koonce pull out a hard fought 6-4, 6-4 decision over Emilee Sykes and Lyann Trinh.

The Junior Varsity also got off to a good start as Adele Bowling and Isa Smith won a close match 8-5. Tiana Thomas and Teana Rahmat fell 5-8, but the team of Gabrielle Singer and Kierra Clayton succeeded in winning their first match by an 8-5 score.

The Skyhawks return to action at 4 p.m. on Friday against Greenon, at the Community Park courts.

Golf

Bellbrook gets top-10 finish

MIAMISBURG — Bellbrook golf finished ninth in the Miamisburg Invitational, Tuesday at Pipestone Golf Club. As a team, the Golden Eagles shot 338 to finish tied with Carlisle on the par-72 course. Eaton won the tournament with a team score of 310.

The top four finishers for Bellbrook were Alyssa Burritt (76), Raif Foster (84), Mason Zimmer (85) and Noah Crosley (93).

Greeneview Alumni game, three other games, set for Aug. 22

JAMESTOWN — The annual Greeneview High School Alumni soccer game will take place as the final event of a four-game soccer festival on Saturday, Aug. 22, at Don Nock Field.

The day begins with a 1 p.m. girls varsity soccer game against Tri-County North, followed by a boys junior varsity match up with Waynesville at 3 p.m. The Rams boys varsity team will then take on Waynesville for a 5 p.m. game.

The Alumni Game is set for a 7 p.m. start. All alumni players are asked to bring light and dark shirts to the event. All donations from all four games will go to the David Rowland Soccer Scholarship.

Xenia sets Jamboree preseason football game for Aug. 21

XENIA — Xenia High School will host Kettering Fairmont for an Ohio High School Athletic Association-sanctioned preseason Jamboree football game at 7 p.m. at Xenia’s Doug Adams Stadium. As part of Community Night, the Wee Bucs football teams and cheerleaders will be introduced, along with the seventh grade through high school athletic teams, flag corps and cheerleaders within the Xenia City School system.

Admission is $5 with all proceeds going to the OHSAA’s scholarship program, with a donation also being made to the Xenia Senior Center.

Bellbrook-Sugarcreek golf outing, Aug. 20

BELLBROOK — The 24th Annual Bellbrook-Sugarcreek area chamber of commerce golf outing will take place, Thursday Aug. 20 at Sugar Valley Golf Club, 1250 Mead Road, in Bellbrook.

Registration and lunch is at noon, shotgun start takes place at 1 p.m. Golfers are asked to wear soft-spiked shoes. Cost is $90 per player, which includes golf, a cart, food all day, refreshments and prizes.
