Clark County Park District hosting events

CLARK COUNTY – The Clark County Park District will be hosting a variety of events throughout the month, including a stargazing event, micro-dragon hunt, night fishing and evening bike ride. Details of the events are listed below:

– Stargazing event: all ages are welcomed to come out to the back patio of the Davidson Interpretive Center for a view of the night sky from 10:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 12. This month, look for the Perseid Meteor Shower. Get the opportunity to use a 14 inch telescope to get an up close, personal view. Bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit on, insect repellant and some binoculars if desired. – Micro Dragon Hunt: Ohio has a huge biodiversity of dragonflies. All ages are welcomed to search for “dragons” in the Leadingham Prairie from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 14 at Leadingham Prairie. Wear a hat, sunscreen and bring water. – Night Fishing: join the Ranger Patrol Division for a family night of fishing beginning at 9 p.m. until midnight Friday, Aug. 21 at George Rogers Clark Park. Listen to the sounds of the night, visit with family and friends and catch some fish. Bring your own fishing pole, bait, tackle, insect repellant and lantern or flashlight.

Attendees can also pack some snacks and have a night picnic. Call the Clark County Park District office at 937-882-6000. No alcoholic beverages are allowed. The park district asks that attendees place all trash in the trash receptacles before leaving that night. – Night Bike Ride: Individuals are invited to attend the third night ride of the summer hosted by the Clark County Park District. The ride will depart at 7:30 p.m. from South Charleston Station, located at 147 Mound Street in South Charleston. The group will travel from South Charleston to Cedarville and back.

This ride will end at the Purple Monkey, where riders can enjoy some local food and ice cream. Helmets and bike-mounted lights are required. The park district asks that attendees wear comfortable, close-toed shoes, comfortable clothes for riding and bring bug repellant. This ride is open to all but those under 18 must be with a responsible adult. No reservation required. The ride takes place beginning at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 28. The Clark County Park District said the ride is a collective effort by the Clark County Park District, National Trails Parks & Recreation and the Ambassadors of Clark County Trails (ACCT).
