FAIRBORN – The Fairborn Parks Foundation and Fairborn Parks and Recreation Division is presenting “The Art of Jazz” on Saturday, and will offer performances by five respective jazz musicians.
“We hope that the event … brings both the Fairborn Community and regional visitors together for a day of fun and celebration as occurred decades ago in this exact location,” Parks and Recreation Division Superintendent Dr. Alicia Eckhart said in an email interview.
The event will begin 12 p.m. at the Central Park Bandstand, 222 S. Central Ave., with a performance by the Brian Cashwell Trio until 1 p.m.
The Swing Mob will take the stage beginning at 1:20 until 2:30 p.m., followed by Chango at 3 p.m.
Razzamattazz & Jazz Band will begin their 4:30 p.m. performance until the Eddie Brookshire Quintet takes the stage at 6:15 until the event wraps up at 7:30 p.m.
Each group will perform within its own respective style of jazz – The Brian Cashwell Trio offers smooth jazz; The Swing Mob will perform swing jazz; Chango plays Latin jazz; Razzamatazz & jazz will perform dixieland jazz while Eddie Brookshire Quintet will play contermporary-style jazz sounds.
The festival is free of charge, and food vendors will be available for the event. The City suggests that attendees bring their own lawn chairs and blankets.
“Horselessbuggy Food truck and our local ice cream food truck will be on hand to assist any picnic ideas,” Eckhart said. “Besides the natural shade from the trees, we provide cover from the sun or the other type of weather – bring lawn chairs or enjoy the provided seating. And, of course, this is a family-type event with the park amenities, playgrounds and the water fun of the Sprayground.”
The event is in its third year. Next year’s Jazz Festival is scheduled for Aug. 6, 2016.
