Inspirational Message

Life can throw us all for a loop every now and then. Difficulties can interrupt a perfectly normal existence that we did not anticipate – anything as little as someone cutting in front of you on the way to work to something much more life-threatening like finding out you, or a loved one, has cancer. No one is immune to these, or anything in between, happening at any given time.

In these last several series of articles we have been looking at Psalm 112 in the Bible. As a way of summary, this inspiring and instructional scriptural passage begins in verse 1 with describing the blessed man. This is an individual who fears (or has an awe of) the Lord and desires or delights in obeying him. It goes on to list other results of this kind of a person such as strength for his or her children, wealth and riches in his house, dawn eventually coming for the one in a dark place and good coming for the generous and just.

Psalm 112 continues with verse six which includes, “Surely he will never be shaken.” Does this mean this blessed person will never have any problems or hardships? Clearly it cannot mean this because verse four indicates darkness has been the experience of a person in this situation.

In addition, James 1:12 says, “Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.” Jesus, himself, also said, “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33b)

There will be conflict and challenges in this world – some minor and others almost too difficult to bear. However, when we have Jesus we can know for certain that he is our strong foundation. He is the fortress of our lives that will enable us to faithfully move through the pain of the battles of this life and to the other side unshaken at our very core.

What battle are you facing that is dragging you down day after day? Do you feel overwhelmed as if nothing will ever change? Go to God in prayer and in his Word. Let the Holy Spirit minister to you like only he can. Draw your strength from the Lord and realize that you will only be shaken as much as you allow yourself to be. God is on your side and is fighting for you.

“Surely he will never be shaken; a righteous man will be remembered forever.” (Psalm 112:6)
