St. Brigid names new principal

Greene County News Report

XENIA — Terry Adkins has been named principal at St. Brigid School.

Adkins, who began July 1, replaces Patricia Harner, who retired.

“The St. Brigid parish and school have fine reputations with very proud traditions and history of Catholic education and worship,” Adkins said. “I am truly blessed to be called to serve in this ministry and eager to get to know the students, families, and parishioners.”

Adkins’ career in Catholic education includes teaching middle school science and social studies at his home parish, Holy Angels in Dayton, and most recently serving as the principal at Queen of Peace School in Hamilton.

Awarded the Masters in Science of education and educational leadership from the University of Dayton, Adkins currently participates in the Catholic Leadership Institute Project (CLiP). The expressed mission of the project is “to inspire and develop Catholic school leaders to animate Catholic schools for a vibrant future.” He will also be joining the school’s St. Remy Initiative team. Now in its eighth year, the initiative is designed to broaden participants’ understanding of Catholic education and strengthen their ministry.

Adkins is a devoted family man, according to a release from the school, and values time spent with his wife, Kim, and their four daughters, five grandchildren, and two dogs. Born, raised, and a lifelong resident of the Miami Valley, he credits the lessons and morals learned from his Catholic elementary school experience as the foundation of his own faith. As a Catholic school leader he is guided by the Archdiocese’s Unified Mission: “Vital to the evangelizing and educational mission of the Catholic Church, we shall be a Christ-centered community dedicated to faith formation, academic excellence, and individual growth of our students, all rooted in the Gospel message of Jesus.”

St. Brigid is a preschool through eighth grade Catholic school with a reputation for academic excellence and gospel values taught in a caring environment. Students attend St. Brigid from Xenia, Beavercreek, Yellow Springs, Fairborn, Wilmington, Springfield and other parts of the Miami Valley.

Registration for Kindergarten through eighth grade is still available. For information on any St. Brigid School program, call the office at 937-372-3222, e-mail [email protected] or visit the website at www.stbrigidxenia.com.
