SPRINGFIELD – The Clark County Safe Communities Coalition is partnering with the National Trail Parks and Recreation District to host the first mocktail event in Clark County. Various community agencies, organizations and businesses, will create a variety of non-alcoholic drinks, and a team of local celebrity judges will cast their votes for the best tasting drink.

The event offers non-alcoholic drinks, swimming, games and music. It takes place on Thursday, July 16 at Splash Zone, located at 300 Eagle City Road in Springfield, beginning at 6:30 and wrapping up at 8:30 p.m., and is open to individuals who are 18 and elder. Costs include $5 at the door.

The party was designed to spark conversations about making simple, potentially lifesaving decisions as they plan their summer festivities. Providing non-alcoholic drink options, designating a sober driver and calling a cab for intoxicated guests are options for making parties safer for attendees.

Clark County has lost more than 21 individuals since 2012 in alcohol-related crashes. The Clark County OVI Task Force will be out with OVI checkpoints, saturation patrols and motorist education throughout the summer.
