CEDARVILLE — Theologian and author Christopher R. Bruno, Ph.D. will join the Cedarville University as assistant professor of bible and theology in the fall. Bruno previously served as associate vice president for academic administration and assistant professor of biblical studies at Northland International University.

“Dr. Bruno brings solid experience in pastoral ministry, biblical studies and theology and he is a great addition for Cedarville University,” said Jason Lee, Ph.D., dean of the school biblical and theological studies. “Dr. Bruno is a gifted communicator, bible scholar and teacher. I am confident our students will thoroughly enjoy learning under him as they see his passion for the gospel, the scripture, the local church, and missions.”

Since graduating in 2001 from Northland International University with a bachelor’s degree in biblical studies, Bruno has devoted his life to learning and ministry. Bruno earned a Master of Divinity degree from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky., in 2006 and a doctoral degree in biblical theology from Wheaton College.

“It’s an exciting time to be at Cedarville University and I’m very happy to be joining a solid group of believers who are making a difference for Jesus Christ,” said Bruno. “Cedarville has a very bright future. I look forward to the opportunity that I may have to be part of shaping the bible and theology programs.”

What drew Bruno to Cedarville University was its unwavering commitment to the gospel. Understanding and proclaiming God’s word is clearly at the heart of Bruno, both personally and professionally.

“I got really excited when I was talking with Cedarville’s leadership about what’s really important (in this position),” said Bruno. “Hearing of their emphasis on the local church, the centrality of the church and scripture, and understanding their passion for missions and evangelism hits my sweet spot in ministry. I’m really excited about hopping on board and contributing to an exceptional university.”

While continuing to earn advanced degrees, Bruno embarked on a professional career in higher education and church ministries. After serving in ministry roles in Hawaii, Illinois, and Minnesota, Bruno became the pastor for training and discipleship at Harbor Church in Honolulu, HI. In 2014, he became the director of the Center for the Local Church at Northland International University. Most recently, Bruno served Northland as its academic dean (2013-14) and associate vice president for academic administration and assistant professor of biblical studies (2014-15).

Dr. Bruno has published three books (with a fourth book currently under review by the publisher), including the well-regarded “The Whole Story of the Bible in 16 Verses in 2015.” His other books include “God is One: The Function of Eis ho Theos as a Ground for Gentile Inclusion in Paul’s Letters,” and “Churches Partnering Together: Biblical Strategies for Fellowship, Compassion, and Evangelism” (with Matthew Dirks).
