ENON – The Village of Enon will celebrate Independence Day weekend with several traditional, hometown events.

The festivities will begin at 5 p.m. tonight at the Enon VFW Post 8437, located at 5075 Enon Xenia Road. The post and several vendors will be selling pizza, hamburgers, hotdogs, and corndogs, as well as a number of different beverages. A silent auction, with a variety of items donated by area businesses and residents, will be available for the public. Also, several games and activities will be setup around the grounds to entertain the kids.

The evening will be capped off with a fireworks display at 9:30 p.m. The public is encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs and enjoy one of the best fireworks displays in Clark County.

According to Dennis Brown, Jr. Vice Commander of VFW Post 8437, the fireworks display is provided to the community through generous donations to the post. He noted that the cost of the show has risen 10 percent in comparison to years past. Therefore, the VFW is still accepting donations.

“The cost of the same quality show has increased $1,000 for a total of $11,000,” Brown said. “The post appreciates all donations from the community.”

The public is also invited to experience hometown pride and patriotic fun at the 2015 Enon Fourth of July Parade, which will be held in the Village of Enon on Saturday. Sponsored by the Mad River Township Fire and EMS Department, the parade will be led by Larry Grube, who will serve as grand marshal this year, and will feature a number of community organizations and church groups, including local scout troops and baseball and softball teams.

The Greenon High School Band will be performing, and the township fire and EMS department will be traveling the parade route and sounding their sirens. The Enon Citizen and Young Citizen of the year will also be riding in the parade, as well as a few beauty queens.

The parade will step off at 1 p.m. from Indian Valley Middle School, 510 S. Xenia Dr., and travel north onto Enon-Xenia Dr. to the traffic light. The parade route will then continue east on Main St. and end at the Enon and Mad River Township Fire and EMS Department, 260 E. Main St. The fire and EMS association invites the public to an open house and a picnic lunch at the fire and EMS station following the parade.
