Driving with Colleen event approaching

SPRINGFIELD — The fourth annual charity golfing event, “Driving with Colleen,” is will be held at 2 p.m. June 28, 2015 at Locust Hills Golf Course in Springfield.The event will cost $60 and includes a dinner.

All proceeds from “Driving with Colleen” will be donated to Circle of Victory, an amazing foundation that provides financial help to cancer patients who live in Greene County, Ohio.

Colleen Cain started this event while battling cancer herself to help other cancer patients. Unfortunately Colleen lost her battle last November. Over the past several years Colleen has raised over $10,000 for Circle of Victory.

Parks and Rec hosting July 4 Spectacular

BEAVERCREEK — The City of Beavercreek Fourth of July Committee is seeking community bands, groups and businesses to be part of the Fourth of July parade. The Parade takes place at 6 p.m. on the Saturday of the fourth at Meadowbridge Drive and will continue on Dayton-Xenia Road and will end at Beavercreek High School.

Festivities will continue after the parade at Rotary Park. There will be food, bounce houses and fireworks. Fastrax Jump Team will land in Rotary Park at 7:30 p.m. to start off the evening. A performer from the Cincinnati Circus will entertain and the Air Force Band of Flight Systems Go Rock Band will take the stage at 8 p.m.

If rained out, the fireworks will take place on Sunday, July 5 at 10 p.m.

Xenia sets Jamboree preseason football game for Aug. 21

XENIA — Xenia High School will host Kettering Fairmont for an Ohio High School Athletic Association-sanctioned preseason Jamboree football game at 7 p.m. at Xenia’s Doug Adams Stadium. As part of Community Night, the Wee Bucs football teams and cheerleaders will be introduced, along with the seventh grade through high school athletic teams, flag corps and cheerleaders within the Xenia City School system.

Admission is $5 with all proceeds going to the OHSAA’s scholarship program, with a donation also being made to the Xenia Senior Center.

Reds going for World Record

CINCINNATI — Major League Baseball, the Cincinnati Reds, Chevrolet and GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ are joining together to attempt to set the world record for the Largest Game of Catch, during MLB All-Star Week in Cincinnati. The event, which will be presented by Chevrolet, will be held at the P&G Cincinnati MLB Urban Youth Academy at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 9.

In order for the record to be set, a minimum of 250 pairs of young people (ages 8 – 18) must participate in the game of catch. The overall event will be open to the general public, with those within the age range of 8-18 eligible to participate in the record-setting attempt. Space is limited so fans wishing to attend are encouraged to register at allstargame.com/catch. Registration will be closed once the capacity of the Urban Youth Academy is reached. Participants are encouraged to bring their own gloves. All participants will receive a t-shirt, a baseball and snacks. Additional sponsors supporting the event include Aquafina, Gatorade and Kellogg’s.

Immediately following the record-setting attempt, the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation will conduct an instructional clinic. The program will consist of baseball and softball drills led by the Foundation staff for all registered attendees.
