Flags to be retired Saturday

NEW CARLISLE — American Legion Post 286 will hold an official Flag Retirement Ceremony at 7 p.m. Saturday, June 13, at American Legion Post 286, 2251 N. Dayton-Lakeview Road. The ceremony is free and open to the public. It will be one of the largest flag retirement ceremonies in the country, and thousands of American flags will be honorably retired at this event.

Commander of Post 286 Keith Sage said, “During the ceremony, the flags receive their final inspection and are condemned as unserviceable, and then they are honorably and ceremoniously retired by burning.”

The ceremony will be preceded by a demonstration from Fastrax Precision Skydiving Team at 7 p.m. and the ceremony will follow at dusk. Attendees are encouraged to arrive by 6:30 p.m. Lawn chairs are recommended.
