Senior Center expresses gratitude

Editor:

Ellen Sloan Farthing, executive director of Fairborn Senior Center, along with the board members, staff and 27 volunteers opened up the Fairborn senior center for a luncheon to show support for the Fairborn Police, fire and Greene County Sheriff’s Department.

We also want to thank the Fairborn Lions, Fairborn Rotary, Fairborn Area Chamber of Commerce, Abiding Christ Lutheran Church, St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church, VFW Post 6861, VFW Ladies Auxiliary 6861, Amvets Auxiliary Post 444, American Legion Post 526, American Legion Auxiliary, Fairborn Texas Road House, Fairborn Chapter F of Gold Wing Road Riders Association, Fairborn City Schools, Fairborn City Council and Fairborn Businesses for their support.

No one contacted turned us down and donations given were in the form of monitary, food and volunteers that was needed by working at the event. We were pleased that Lance Walker of Texas Road House stopped by and was able to give police, fire and sheriff coupons for entree at the Colonel Glenn Restaurant to be used for dinner when they wanted their next meal.

The Fairborn lunch was from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. for fire, police, EMS and Greene County Sheriff’s Departments and we served 84 that could attend and they received many hugs and handshakes from the people that not only volunteered but some that just stopped in to say thanks for their service.

The officers that remain at the jail or fire station were not forgotten, as food was boxed up for them at the end of the luncheon, placed in food containers and delivered to the police station and fire station for the rest of the officers. No one was forgotten that day as all are important.

Our hope was that others in the area will decide to follow by our example and show support and kindness in their town, city and states across America.
