Theatre hosting lunchtime pop-up

FAIRBORN — The City of Fairborn just got a new lunchtime option — at least temporarily.

The Fairborn Theatre, 34 S. Broad St., will host a pop-up Chic-Fil-A station from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for the next three months. It will serve up the original chicken sandwich, spicy sandwich, waffle chips, chocolate chunk cookies and bottled drinks, according to its Facebook page.

While the facility underwent cleaning and other necessary preparations to make the Chic-Fil-A pop-up possible, it is not quite ready to invite individuals inside. Items are being sold in the doorway of the facility.

Fairborn City Manager Rob Anderson expressed in a Facebook live video that the theatre was not going anywhere despite circulating rumors. He said he understands the importance of the theatre to Fairborn citizens and that city officials are currently in process of establishing a partnership that would bring life back to the facility. In the meantime, Anderson said “pop-up” events, such as lunch hours at Chic-Fil-A, would be hosted to create a buzz around the theatre.

While no concrete plans have been established, it has been expressed in previous interviews that ideally the theatre would host older movies and serve up food as a “cinema grill.” Renovation costs are a factor as Anderson has said previously that the project is an expensive one.
