FAIRBORN — Barnes & Nobles bookstores across the country, including more than 640 stores, conduct an annual “My Favorite Teacher” contest, in which high school and middle school students are asked to write an essay about their favorite teacher. This year, Fairborn High School student Gabrielle Kovachich won the best essay, in which she honored Joseph Riffle, a Social Studies teacher at Fairborn High School.
Barnes and Nobles store’s winning selection was chosen based on the following criteria:
– compelling nature of the teacher’s inspiring qualities;
– sincerity of the student’s appreciation;
– quality of expression and writing.
Kovachich’s essay will compete at the district level before moving on to regionals with the national winning essay winning $5,000 for the teacher and a matching $5,000 for the school.
