XENIA — Former presidents of the Greene County Retired Teachers Association were honored at its Spring luncheon held May 27 at Memorial United Methodist Church.

In addition to recognizing the former presidents, the 2014 – 2015 scholarships were announced: Emily Witker of Bellbrook High School and Amber Ankrom of Beavercreek High School each were awarded a $1,000 scholarship. Witker plans to attend Sinclair Community College with the hopes of becoming a high school history teacher while Ankrom will attend Wright State University to major in science, with hopes of becoming a biology or chemistry teacher.

The main speaker for the event was Buzz Reed of Xenia, who spoke on Greene County Circles, a non-profit group seeking to “eliminate poverty by forming personal relationships with families moving out of hardship and heartache of poverty and by changing the mindset of the community about poverty.” People can participate in many ways and can contact Greene County Circles at PO Box 86, Xenia, Ohio 45385, email [email protected], or go to www.greenegiving.org to receive more information.
