FAIRBORN — Fought hard in Thursday’s 21-25, 25-20, 25-18, 25-21 victory against the Wayne Warriors. Leading the pack for the Skyhawks were Taylor Rice with 12 kills and 4 aces, Kaitlin Dunn with 6 blocks and 5 kills. Kennedy Brown had 4 aces, 23 assists, 1 block and 10 digs. Close Snyder had 14 digs and Kayleigh Finlayson had 15 digs. Fairborn fought hard and played as a team to get the win.

Bellbrook – 167 Franklin – 168
FRANKLIN — Bellbrook’s Alyssa Burritt claimed medalist honors with a 2-over-par 37 over nine holes at Franklin Golf Club, and the Golden Eagles nipped host Franklin 167-168 on Thursday. Franklin’s Alex Palmer-Truesdell and Bellbrook’s Mason Zimmer shared runner-up honors three strokes behind Burritt. Other top Bellbrook scores were shot by Raif Foster (42) and Luke DiCicco (48).
Central State hosting track tryouts
WILBERFORCE — As the 2015-2016 school year approaches, the CSU track & field program is excited to start training for the upcoming season. Upon doing so, the coaches would like to reach out to the student body and invite students who are interested in joining the CSU men’s and women’s cross country and track & field teams to this year’s tryout date.
An interest meeting will be held beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 26 in the Beacom/Lewis Gymnasium. The interest meeting is mandatory in order to tryout.
Official tryouts will be held on Monday, Aug. 31.

CSU Hall Inductees announced for 2015
WILBERFORCE – Central State Athletic Director Jahan Culbreath has announced the department’s Hall of Fame committee’s 2015 inductees. Joining the CSU Hall of Fame this year will be Thelanious “Laney” Prioleau, Dr. Arthur E. Thomas, and the 1990 Central State football team.
In addition to this year’s inductees, Central State’s undefeated 1965 men’s basketball team will be in attendance to celebrate their 50th anniversary. The ‘65 team won the school’s first NAIA national basketball title with a flawless 30-0 record.
The 2015 Hall of Fame Luncheon will be held at the Country Club of the North at 1 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 9, in Beavercreek. Tickets to the induction ceremony are available for $35 each and can be purchased online or by calling the CSU Athletic Office at (937) 376-6289. All those planning to attend must RSVP prior to the event and purchase their ticket(s) on or before Monday, Aug. 31.
Dragons hosting Breast Cancer Awareness Day, Sunday
DAYTON – Kettering Health Network presents Breast Cancer Awareness Day set for Sunday, Aug. 30 at Fifth Third Field when the Dayton Dragons host the Lake County Captains at 4 p.m. All Dragons players, coaches, front office, and game day staff will be wearing pink sweatbands during the game in support of breast cancer awareness.
The Breast Cancer Awareness Event will take place on the plaza with a wellness wheel, mammogram sign-ups, free pink rally towels, and information on the Making Strides Walk and the new Kettering Health Network Cancer Center.
Breast Cancer survivor Stephanie Fox will throw out the ceremonial first pitch. On February 13, 2014, Fox was diagnosed with Stage 3, Level C inflammatory and hormonal breast cancer. Fox sensed something physically felt wrong and decided to go to Kettering Medical Center for treatment. Thanks to their “wonderful and nice staff,” Fox is finishing up treatments and had her last infusion in early August.
“If there is anything you are concerned with, promptly get an appointment and multiple opinions,” Fox said. “Don’t wait.”
As a part of a national fundraising effort, the 2015 Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk will take place starting at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17 at Fifth Third Field.
