Women defeat Indianapolis

FAIRBORN — The Wright State women’s basketball team got in one final tuneup as they defeated University of Indianapolis in an exhibition game, 92-44, Nov. 1 at the WSU Nutter Center.

The Raiders came out hot, outscoring the Greyhounds 20-13, shooting 47 percent from the field and 33 percent behind the three-point line. The first half came to a close with the Raiders up 38-24. The Raiders widened their lead in the third quarter as they outscored the Greyhounds 28-9. WSU’s shooting improved as they hit 10 of 14 from the field, raising the percentage to 48. Wright State led 66-33.

Wright State pulled away with 26 points in the final quarter to end the game 92-44. The Raiders had 36 points off the bench and 44 from turnovers as WSU had 13 steals.

The team plays next at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10 at Northwestern Ohio in Lima.

Racers pass Bulldogs

WILBERFORCE — The Wilberforce University women’s basketball team faced off with the University of Northern Ohio Racers,Nov. 1. The Bulldogs had three players with double digits: Brittany Wells and Jamee Deman with 18 points; with Alexandria Shealey contributing 15 points. Despite an impressive defensive effort; forcing 27 turnovers, Wilberforce lost 69-76.

Wilberforce fall to UNO

WILBERFORCE — The host Wilberforce University Bulldogs forced the University of Northern Ohio men’s basketball team into 20 turnovers and finished with four players in double digits: Malik Breckenridge finished with 10 points; Lajuane Marshall scored 12 points; freshman post player Jabril Hunter came in with 12; and senior guard Terrance Briggs led the team with 17 points.

The Bulldogs suffered foul trouble early, and the Racers took advantage, shooting 96 percent from the free-throw line, followed by 57 percent from the field and 47 percent from behind the arch. Hot shooting lead the Racers to a victory of 100-89.

The Bulldogs are back in action at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4 against Fisk University.

Rams playoff tickets

JAMESTOWN — Pre-sale tickets for Friday’s 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3 high school football playoff game between the Greeneview Rams and the Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy Eagles are now on sale at all three Greeneview schools during regular school hours. Cash only please. Ticket sales end at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3 at both the Middle and Elementary Schools and at 3 p.m. at the High School. Children under 6 are admitted free.

DIRECTIONS to CHCA: To get to Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy, the site of Friday’s Division V first-round playoff game, take Interstate 71 South to Exit 19. Go straight through the traffic light. Basketball workshop starts Nov. 6

BEAVERCREEK — City of Beavercreek Parks and Recreation in cooperation with Jump Start Sports is offering a basketball program for children. Jump Start Basketball is an instructional and recreational basketball program designed for children in Pre-Kindergarten & Kindergarten, and grades 1-2. The goal of this program is to pique each child’s curiosity, to get kids excited about playing basketball and to teach good basic fundamentals at the same time.

The workshop will be held, Nov. 6 through Dec. 11. Times for Little Hoops Stars – pre-kindergarten (minimum age 4), from 5:30-6:30 p.m.; Hoop Stars – Grades 1-2 are 6:30-7:30 p.m. at Shaw Elementary, 3560 Kemp Road. Bucs in Flyin’ to the Hoop

DAYTON — Xenia High will be among the area and national teams participating in the annual Flyin’ to the Hoop Invitational basketball showcase event.

The Buccaneers are scheduled to play Olentangy Liberty at 1:15 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 13 at James S. Trent Arena, in Kettering.
