WSU’s Susor earns regional honor

FAIRBORN — Junior outfielder Honnah Susor of the Wright State University softball team has been named to the Third Team All-Midwest Region team by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association, it was announced May 18.

Susor (Oregon Clay), who was selected First Team All-Horizon League earlier this month, finished third in the league in hitting with a .377 average. She also ranked first in triples (eight), second in total bases (90), on-base percentage (.471) and stolen bases (22), third in hits (61), fourth in runs scored (40), tied for fourth in walks (26) and sixth in slugging percentage (.556).

Susor is the first Raider ever to be selected Third Team All-Region and is the eighth WSU player to earn All-Region honors, joining First Teamers Angie Lala (1997), Amber Kolle (1999), Jherica Williams (2008) and Allison Cox (2009) and Second Teamers Michelle Demmitt (1999), Annie Divac (2000) and Nikki Scott (2001).

Sinclair advances in regional tourney

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — Sean Darmafall doubled to left to score Blaze Glenn and Trevor Hafner, May 18 as the Sinclair Tartan Pride defeated the Cuyahoga Challengers, 9-8, at the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II Region 12 Tournament.

Trailing 8-5 going into the bottom of the ninth, Beavercreek grad Nick Massey led off the inning with a walk, and went to second when Payton Ley was hit by a pitch.

With one out, Glenn singled in Massey and Austin Elmore went to second. One batter later, Trevor Hafner singled in Elmore and it was 8-7.

Darmafall then doubled to left, scoring both Glenn and Hafner with the go-ahead runs.

Sinclair will take on Lansing, at 11:30 a.m. Friday in the tournament’s winner’s bracket final.

Chamber golf outing in May

JAMESTOWN — The annual Jamestown Chamber of Commerce golf outing will take place 11 a.m. Friday, May 19 at Sebastian Hills Golf Course, 1100 Knoll Haven Road. Registration opens at 10 a.m. Free driving range and putting green privileges will be available as well as getting a hot dog or two courtesy of Countryside Propane.

Participants will be able to enjoy beverages and snacks, courtesy of the Chamber, and when the golf is over Kelley’s Café will be providing all participants and volunteers a wonderful meal at the golf course. The annual golf outing proceeds benefit Chamber activities, programs and scholarships to the Jamestown and surrounding communities.

Kids fishing derby

BEAVERCREEK — Grab those fishing poles, bait and tackle to a new derby location 8-11:30 a.m. May 20 to Phillips Park, 2132 Dayton-Xenia Road.

Beavercreek Parks, Recreation & Culture and McAfee Heating & Air are sponsoring the ninth annual Fishing Derby. Mister C will take the stage at 10:30 a.m. to do a Hair Raising Science program. Prizes will be awarded at 11 a.m. to the child who catches the smallest, largest and most fish. No pre-registration is required.

SW Ohio Track practices

YELLOW SPRINGS — The Southwest Ohio Track Club summer program starts on May 30 at Yellow Springs High School. The practices are Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. A host of meets will take place this summer. Practices for 7-12 year olds: 5-6 p.m. Practices for 13 and older: 6-7:30 p.m.

The SWOTC includes elementary, middle school, high school, post collegiate and master athletes. All are welcome. The SWOTC is a tax exempt and sanctioned program. BYSA signups underway

BEAVERCREEK — Registration for the 34th season of the Beavercreek Youth Softball Association is under way. This is a co-ed recreational program for kindergarteners through seniors in high school. Good sportsmanship and team play are emphasized. Residents from surrounding communities are permitted to play. Kindergarten through the eighth grade teams are put together based on play- with requests and also grouped by schools and churches, while the ninth-10th grade league and 11-12th grade leagues are put together mostly by the players themselves.

Colleen golf outing

SPRINGFIELD — The sixth annual Driving with Colleen Golf Outing will take place on June 3 with a shotgun start at 2 p.m. at Locust Hills Golf Club. All proceeds to benefit Circle of Victory. To date this event has raised nearly $30,000 to help cancer patients in Greene County. Please visit www.drivingwithcolleen.org to register to play or become a sponsor.

Girls basketball camp

BEAVERCREEK — The 17th Beavercreek Girls Basketball Camp will be held from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. June 5-8 at Beavercreek High School. Cost is $90 per camper. Cost is $80 for any camper who registers before May 20. Girls in grades 1-8 are eligible for the camp, which will be hosted by BHS girls basketball coach and three-time Ohio coach of the year Ed Zink and BHS girls basketball’s all-time leading scorer Amanda (Reese) Crockett. Current and past BHS basketball players will also be on hand. The last day of camp, June 8, is Mother-Daughter Camp Day.

XHS Class of ‘73 golf outing

XENIA — The fifth Play it Forward golf outing and scholarship fundraiser, hosted by the Xenia High School Class of 1973, is scheduled for Saturday June 17 at Sebastian Hills Golf Club. Golf registration includes a light breakfast, a full picnic-style lunch and beverages, in addition to prizes and raffles. The event is open to the public with an early registration discount applied until June 1.

The goal of the fundraiser and scholarship award is to give back to current XHS graduates in need. The Class of ’73 will award its fourth $4,000 scholarship to a 2017 XHS graduate at the Awards Assembly in May. Scholarship monies are acquired from hole sponsorship, title sponsors, monetary/gift donations and, of course, golfers.

Pacesetter Open set

BEAVERCREEK— Country Club of the North will once again play host to the 35th Pacesetter Open, Monday, June 26. The Pacesetter is a major fundraiser for the Wright State Athletic Department. All proceeds go to support Wright State’s student-athletes.

The day will include breakfast, a four-player golf scramble, and lunch served in the clubhouse afterward. Registration and warm-up will begin at 8 a.m., with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. The cost for a foursome includes greens fee, cart, a complimentary gift, and food and beverage throughout the day. There are also sponsorship opportunities available.

Beavercreek fall basketball league

BEAVERCREEK — The Beavercreek High School girls basketball program will be hosting its 18th annual girls basketball fall league. The games will be played on Sunday afternoons Sept. 10 through Oct. 22. All teams will play a total of seven games on five Sundays with no games on Sept. 17-24.

The league will be a total of 12 high school teams, ninth through twelfth grade. There will be 8-10 girls per team, with only two players from each school on the same team.
