“In the dark, men break into houses, but by day they shut themselves in; they want nothing to do with the light.” (Job 24:16)
There is that mysterious something about darkness that draws evil. Criminals are usually not bold enough to pull off crimes in the day because they do not want to be recognized and possibly caught. Light reveals activity and light also reveals thoughts and words that are not acceptable to God.
Humankind has within it the knowledge of good and evil. Humans usually know when they do something that is not appropriate for God’s creation. It is in their rebellion that they seek to do such things and seem to believe the Lord does not see. They only deceive themselves or they don’t care. Often sin works that thought, “I don’t care. I’m going to do it anyway.”
There is within every person that Original Sin that tends toward darkness. There is that seed of rebellion that continues to seek to grow like a weed and take over one’s life. Everyone has this within but those who trust their Creator in Jesus Christ also have within His Spirit to battle these tendencies and bring victory.
God’s transforming presence brings the Light and that Light becomes more and more a part of one who follows Christ Jesus. We have within our own life seen the workings of this. The Lord brings to fruition victories by His Light and they are good.
Heavenly Father, let Your Light shine whether we like it or not. Only Your Light can cleanse this world and bring victories for Your glory. Send forth Your Light, Your Son, Jesus, to shine into our lives more and more. Let that Light burn and purify the sin that seeks to control us, even though that may be uncomfortable.
Our cry is, “Send the Light!” In Jesus’ name. Amen.
