ENON — The Rebecca Galloway Chapter of the DAR recently had a busy meeting at the Enon Community Research Center.

In addition to welcoming new member Brooke Riedel, the chapter honored two good citizens from Greenon and Fairborn High Schools. Blaine Butterworth and Taylor Rice were honored with pins, certificates and other historic and genealogical items.

Seniors in any high school may be nominated by their teachers or counselors based on the student’s dependability, service, leadership and patriotism to an outstanding degree. After nomination, the student must describe how he/she manifests these qualities and get two letters of recommendation. In addition, the senior writes a timed essay within a two-hour limit and without assistance or reference materials.

This year’s topic was “Our American Heritage and Our Responsibility for Preserving It” with the focus question: “How do the combined actions of many good citizens keep our nation moving forward?” Both Butterworth and Rice read their essays, which will be read and judged by a non-DAR reader and forwarded to district and maybe beyond.

The Rebecca Galloway Chapter was impressed with the quality of its two good citizens.
