XENIA — Greene Memorial Hospital experts are presenting a special workshop to engage the public and educate them with what to do when an emergency arises.
Are You Ready is an informational workshop that will take place 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22 at Greene Memorial Hospital, 1141 N. Monroe Drive.
According to Kettering Health Network Community Outreach Coordinator Tonya Chambers, “We want to help the community be prepared and know just what to do in an emergency … to give them an understanding how important acting quickly can be in certain emergencies such as a stroke or cardiac episode.”
The seminar will be led by Soin Medical Center Trauma Director and GMH Associate Medical Director Dr. Lynn Bailey who will discuss what symptoms determine whether someone should go to urgent care or the emergency room.
Xenia attorney Stephanie Stephan will talk about advance directives such as a medical power of attorney and do not resuscitate orders.
Finally a panel of hospital professionals will discuss trauma levels and explain how the different departments work when dealing with an emergency and advance directives. Participating in that panel will be: Dr. Bailey, Stephens, GMH ED Director John Larch and Deb Swigart from admissions. In addition the experts will talk about what documents a patient should have with them when they arrive at the hospital.
The event will include representatives from cardiac, stroke, and physical therapy departments along with vendors, home monitoring systems, MedFlight and the hospital medical fleet vehicles available for tour as well.
“We want to provide as much information and education to our community as possible and this is a good opportunity for the public to learn more about what to do in an emergency,” said Chambers.
