Fairborn Parks offers January activities

FAIRBORN — Old Man Winter has made its way to the area and the Fairborn Parks and Recreation Office will offer programs targeted at a variety of ages in conjunction with the season.

Participants may register at the Fairborn Parks and Recreation Office, 461 E. Dayton-Yellow Springs Road; the Fairborn Government Center, 44 W. Hebble Ave. or via telephone, 937-754-3090.

Winter scene painting

Terri Perkins, owner of Terri Lynn Art Studio and Gallery will guide students as they tape off trees, paint background color and add dots of snow; a moon or sun can be added. After pulling off tape, they will add lines to create birch trees. Art will be created on bristol paper with acrylic paint, which stains clothing. All supplies are included in the $15 fee. It takes place 6-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 14 for those aged 5-years-old and up at Terri Lynn Art Studio and Gallery, 415 W. Main St. Participants must be registered by Wednesday, Jan. 13.

Hike and explore

Wildlife is all around, even in the winter months the parks is offering Hike and Explore – Nature Series – Winter Wildlife. During this event, adults, families and children aged 6-9-years-old will seek out life outside and find the evidence that animals leave behind within Fairborn’s Oaks Quarry Park, 1267 E. Xenia Dr. Officials ask that attendees dress appropriately for the weather. The first session, open to adults and families, will take place 10-11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 16; the second session, open to children 6-9-years-old will take place 1-2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 16. Participants must be registered for a fee of $2 by Friday, Jan. 15.

Preschool art class

Participants will create many masterpieces using paint in Let’s Create – Preschool Art – glue and more under the direction of Terri Perkins, owner of Terri Lynn Art Studio and Gallery. Officials ask that attendees wear old clothing as some projects may be messy. All supplies are included in the $20 fee. It is open to children 2-5-years-old.

Three Wednesday and three Friday sessions are offered. Participants are asked to sign up for one session only and come when it works best with their schedule. Wednesday sessions take place 3-4 p.m. Jan. 20, Feb. 17 and March 16; Friday session will occur 9-10 a.m. Jan. 22, Feb. 19 and March 18. Events take place at Terri Lynn Art Studio and Gallery, 415 W. Main St. Participants must be registered by Tuesday, Jan. 19.

Spring flower bouquet

Spring has already sprung at Hollon Flowers, or at least officials hope that participants can beat winter blues and start thinking spring with the colorful spring bouquet they will be creating.

In this special class, participants will celebrate the beauty of spring flowers at Hollon Flowers, 50 N. Central Ave., under the direction of Owners Carolyn Hollon and Jamie Brauer. All flowers and supplies are included in the $40 fee. It takes place 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 26 and is open to those 18-and-elder. Participants must be registered by Tuesday, Jan. 19.
