XENIA — A Trotwood man was sentenced to eight years in prison Thursday for an armed robbery and a brief police chase in Greene County. Greene County Common Pleas Judge Stephen Wolaver sentenced Darryl Matlock, 19, to the term after Matlock pleaded guilty in September to seven charges related to a car-jacking/armed robbery incident that occurred in May.

Matlock was sentenced to eight years for an aggravated robbery charge, to three years for a having weapons while under disability, to 18 months for grand theft of a motor vehicle, to 18 months for carrying a concealed weapon and to 12 months for attempted grand theft of a motor vehicle, all to be served concurrently. Matlock was not sentenced for a grand theft charge and an improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle charge.

According to Beavercreek police information from the time of the original incident, Matlock pistol-whipped a victim in Xenia and stole that individual’s car. When law enforcement officers attempted to stop the vehicle on US Route 35 in Beavercreek Township, Matlock avoided them but went off the roadway and blew a tire.

“[He] exited the vehicle on foot and tried to enter two other vehicles on the highway,” Beavercreek Police Department Captain Eric Grile said at the time. “He was unsuccessful both times.”

According to Grile, Matlock tried to enter a vehicle on both sides of the US Route 35 before attempting to elude officers. Officers took Matlock into custody after a brief foot pursuit. Police also reported at the time that Matlock dropped a weapon in the median at one point and that another gun was found in the vehicle he abandoned.

Matlock was sentenced previously for criminal misdemeanor charges in 2014, including disorderly conduct, aggravated menacing and criminal trespass, according to Dayton Municipal Court records.
