XENIA — The Greene County Career Center will decide the fate of its previous building next month, as the property goes up for sale. GCCC will auction off the contents of its previous location Wednesday, and will auction off the old building, located at 2960 W. Enon Road at 1 p.m. March 3.
The items and appliances up for auction include commercial kitchen equipment, tools, classroom materials, and office furniture, among other things. The most modern equipment from the old building was moved to the new GCCC facility, located on Innovation Drive in Xenia. The remainder of the machinery is what is being auctioned.
Public information administrator Ron Bolender said that he suspects that the equipment from the culinary arts lab and the cafeteria kitchen may be the most popular items being sold, including the walk-in coolers and freezers.
Students officially began taking classes at the Career Center’s new facility on Aug. 25, 2020. The $70 million facility encompasses 264,000 square feet, and constitutes a state-of-the art learning space for its approximately 730 students.
“We outfitted our new facility with new equipment and furniture. Our students deserve to be taught on the most modern technology and equipment to meet the demands of the current and future workforce,” Bolender said.
The old GCCC property contains just over 45 acres and 245,000 square feet between the four major buildings. The structures were built between 1967 and 2003.
“I’ve been an employee at the career center since 1997,” Bolender said. “While it is a bit sad to see a big part of the county’s history go up for sale, it’s gratifying to know that our new building will provide even better opportunities for students seeking career-technical training for decades to come.”
The auction is being held both in-person and online through Sheridan and Associates. The company has posted a complete list of the items sold on its website, www.sheridanteam.com.
There is no minimum bid on the old property as yet. However, the board of education must approve the sale price to complete the transaction at its March 10 meeting.
