JAMESTOWN — Jerrod Pickens retained his seat as Jamestown mayor Tuesday night.

In unofficial numbers, Pickens garnered 344 votes (60.78 percent), while challenger Jeff Tudor received 222 votes (39.22 percent).

Pickens, who works for the Greene County highway department, had said his professional experience and his communication with surround municipalities and organizations made him the right choice for mayor. He said he tries to lead by example and not be “a boss.”

“I will jump right in when help is needed not point fingers where help is needed,” he said during the campaign. “Nothing I do is for self-gratification but for the betterment of the community where I was raised and for my family. I do not play political games and I will not tell you what you want to hear, however I will tell you what we can do.”

With the election unofficially over, Pickens said infrastructure will be a top priority.

“Our streets are in need of repair and or replacement,” he previously said. “Public safety is always a concern and with failing asphalt and street deterioration this would be my first objective. Currently we now have a road program in progress that is and will be repairing our streets along with some local grant monies involved. Also to maintain newly paved streets to achieve the longevity of the asphalt. We were able to pass a street levy and that has been a huge step in bringing our town back to life and hopefully the future is a continuation of all the hard work that has already taken place.”

Results are expected to be certified by the board of elections in the coming weeks.
