FAIRBORN – The City of Fairborn has initiated a process to update the Fairborn Comprehensive Land Use Plan, which was originally prepared in 1991. As part of the process, the City is reaching out to the community for participation at the upcoming public meeting schedule from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27 at the Fairborn Senior Center, 352 N. Third St.
A comprehensive plan is the community’s “blueprint” for their future. It is the vision of what a community wants to become and what steps are needed to reach that vision. The plan documents and illustrates what the community looks like today and what direction it wants to go. It assess existing resources and issues, projects future conditions and needs and considers collective goals and desires.
This plan is a method of translating the community’s values into specific actions and acts as a policy guide providing a framework for future land use decision making and the physical development of the community. It not only addresses land use and infrastructure, but also important social, natural resource, and economic values of the community.
At this meeting, attendees can provide their current views and opinions as well as input on the future of Fairborn. This plan will cover an approximate time frame of 10 to 20 years with shorter-term reviews to keep it current with the changing needs of the community.
Fairborn has established a site specifically for the plan progression to provide the community with information as through the update. Citizens are encouraged to visit fairbornplan2016.com to stay informed on the process.
The plan will address many community elements including: community vision, land use, parks and open space, public utilities, transportation, development character, community services, and implementation strategies. It is a living document meant to provide a framework for the development of the implementation tools.
The City has contracted OHM Advisors to assist in the planning process. OHM has more than 50 years of public and private sector expertise, forward thinking and insightful counsel to help plan for the future of Fairborn.
The planning process is expected to be completed by the end of spring 2016.
