FAIRBORN — Fairborn City School District Superintendent Dave Scarberry resigned from his position following a school board meeting that took place in May, leading the district to begin its search for a new leader of the schools beginning in the fall months.
School Board President Tess Little said the district will begin the search by first welcoming citizen input, and hosting community forums starting in November after the election takes place. The input will allow the district to compile criteria regarding traits the board will look for in the new superintendent.
“Last time they did a superintendent search they had community forums; that was about 12 or 13 years ago before Mr. Scarberry started,” she said. “Normally that’s part of the search – you have two or three community forums.”
The search will open up for candidates to apply by late December or early January, with a call for applicants going out between January and February. The board will review applications at this time, and will begin interviewing in March and April. They hope to have a candidate established by the end of April.
The district is currently in the process of filing the necessary paperwork to build new facilities. Little said it is due to the age of the buildings.
“The person we look for will have to have school-building experience,” Little said. “Plus, we want him or her to put children first, we want them to be very children-oriented and we want them to be able to communicate well. The board hasn’t written out the criteria … we have to establish that criteria.”
Scarberry’s last day of service to the district will take place on July 31, 2016 and the board looks to have the new superintendent start the following day on Aug. 1.
“We’ve got it under control,” Little said. “We’ve got a plan.”
