Scouts to begin homestand
XENIA — The Xenia Scouts, a member of the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League, has one more road contest on Sunday before playing four straight home games next week at the Athlete In Action Sports Complex’s Grady’s Field.
Xenia is currently tied with the Hamilton Joes (nicknamed after famed Cincinnati Reds player and broadcaster Joe Nuxhall) for first place in the GLSCL’s South Division with identical 18-11 records.
The Scouts play in Athens, Ohio against the Southern Ohio Copperheads at 7:05 p.m. Sunday at Ohio University’s Bob Wren Stadium. They’ll then open up their homestand against the Copperheads at 4:05 p.m. on Monday at Grady’s Field.
On Tuesday and Wednesday, Xenia plays host to the Galion Graders for a pair of 7:05 p.m. contests. They’ll then host the Richmond Jazz on Thursday for yet another 7:05 p.m. tilt.
The AIA Sports Complex and Grady’s Field are located south of downtown Xenia at 1197 S. Detroit Street.
AUTO RACING
Hensel Night at Shady Bowl
DEGRAFF — Shady Bowl Speedway will honor the memory of one its most loyal employees Saturday night, July 9 when it hosts the “Racing for Rick“ late model feature. Rick and wife Mary Jane of Bellefontaine worked at the speedway for over three decades. In that span, Rick was groundskeeper, maintenance man, flagman and pit steward. Mary Jane and most of the family worked the concession stands. Rick lost his battle with a lengthy illness in June. The Central Ohio Late Model Alliance (COLA) will sanction the “Racing for Rick 50.”
It will be the second race for the series, with Fairborn’s Jim Lewis Jr. taking the inaugural win. In addition, the modifieds, street stocks, pure stocks, compacts, tuners and spectator drag races will also be held. Racing will start at 7 p.m.
The Bobby Korn Memorial late model race will be rescheduled for a later date.
RUNNING
Beavercreek hosting Elite Running/Fitness Camp
BEAVERCREEK — An Elite Running/Fitness Camp, sponsored by the Beavercreek High School Cross Country team, will take place from 6:30-8 p.m. July 18-21 at Ferguson Hall on the Beavercreek High School campus, look for large tents and flags.
A Future Olympian Race of Champions will be held at 6:30 p.m. on the last day of the session. Cost is $25. Make checks out to: BCCPA. Runners will learn about proper running form, how to train for distance running, strength/core training using body weight exercises, and fun running games. Greene Trails Cycling Classic July 14-17
XENIA — The 2016 Greene Trails Cycling Classic will take place July 14-17 with the Greene County Fairgrounds Recreation Center serving as home base for the hundreds of cyclists expected to attend from all over the region.
Excursions will be planned for each day of the event. Registration includes Fairgrounds Recreation Center campsite, Support and Gear (SAG), fully-supported rest stops, purchase pick-up, breakfast daily and all evening entertainment including meal on Thursday and Saturday night – if registered for Thursday and Saturday.
Reduced Greene County Resident Rate includes all SAG, Rest Stops, Purchase Pick Up, Century Ride Award, Tent Camping and Breakfast. Additional and optional costs may include $10 per evening for entertainment; T-shirt, $15; and GTCC Jersey, $65.

BASKETBALL
Girls fall leagues filling now
BEAVERCREEK — The Beavercreek High School girls basketball program will be hosting the 17th Annual Girls Basketball Fall League from Sept. 11 to Oct. 23 on Sundays at the high school, located at 2660 Dayton-Xenia Road.
All teams will play a total of seven games on five Sundays with no game TBA (to accommodate the college exposure tournaments, date subject to change).
The league will be a total of 12 high school teams (ninth through 12th grade). There will be 8-10 girls per team, keeping in mind that only two players from each school may play on the same team (per the Ohio High School Athletic Association rule). Space is limited to 120 players and restricted based on OHSAA rules. The talent level will be balanced as much as possible across all teams and a coach will be supplied for each team.
Deadline is Aug. 22, or until the league is full. Cost is $75 per player, which includes a numbered jersey. Make checks payable to: Beavercreek Athletic Boosters.
