Scouts defeat Joes, Saturday
HAMILTON — Visiting Xenia handed the Hamilton Joes their first loss of the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League season on Saturday, with a 7-6 win at Foundation Field.
Xenia trailed 3-1 after one inning of play, grabbed the lead at 4-3 midway through the fifth, gave up the lead when the Joes plated a couple runs in the bottom half of the inning, then took the lead for good when Cary Holloway scored on Adrian Marquez’s single, then designated hitter John Sharpe drove in Marquez and Ryan O’Hearn with a bases clearing triple.
John Sharpe had two hits and two RBI in the game. O’Hearn went 3-for-4 at the plate, walking once and scoring twice. Marquez had an RBI on one hit, while Jeremy Barth and Colt Wolfe each had two hits and drove in a run.
Walter Rook IV collected his second pitching win of the season for the Scouts. Righty reliever Matthew Wade struckout six Hamilton batters in the game’s final three innings to earn the save.
The two teams played Monday night in Hamilton, as well. Xenia has games Tuesday and Wednesday night in Celina against the Grand Lake Mariners, before returning home to Grady’s Field on Thursday and Friday to host the Licking County Settlers. Both home games are scheduled for 7:05 p.m. starts.

Three more Raiders drafted
FAIRBORN — Wright State University baseball players Ryan Fucci, Robby Sexton and Mitch Roman were selected by their respective teams in Saturday’s second day of the Major League Baseball Draft, making a school-record five players selected this year.
Senior outfielder Fucci was selected by the Seattle Mariners in the 25th round with the 747th pick.
Fucci (Lexington, Ky. Tates Creek), a First Team All-Horizon League selection in 2016, hit .326 with a team-best 11 home runs, 64 RBI and 26 stolen bases. He finished first in the Horizon League in home runs, RBI and stolen bases, second in total bases (124), fourth in slugging percentage (.525), fifth in runs scored (51) and seventh in hits (77) and on-base percentage (.412).
Junior pitcher Sexton was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in Saturday’s 14th round with the 418th pick.
Sexton (Pataskala Watkins Memorial) put together a solid season in his return from Tommy John surgery, going 7-3 with a 3.15 earned run average and 58 strikeouts in 74.1 innings pitched. The seven wins tied him for sixth in the Horizon League while his ERA was sixth, the innings were eighth and the strikeouts tied for ninth.
Junior shortstop Mitch Roman was selected by the Chicago White Sox on Saturday in the 12th round with the 356th pick.
Roman (Fishers, Ind. Hamilton Southeastern) was a Second Team All-Horizon League honoree in 2016 as he tied for the league lead in stolen bases with 26, was second with 84 hits and five triples, tied for second with 54 runs scored, was eighth with a .336 batting average. In league play, he hit .336 with 24 RBI and 27 runs scored.
Roman’s four stolen bases at Elon on February 21 were the most by any league player in a game this season. He tied for the squad lead with 26 multi-hit games, including seven of three or more hits, and had the longest hitting streak of any Raider player in 2016 at 11 games.
On Friday, junior catcher Sean Murphy was selected by Oakland in the third round with the 83rd overall pick and senior pitcher Jesse Scholtens was chosen by San Diego in the ninth round with the 264th pick. Wright State’s previous record of players selected came in 2008 when the school had three selected in first baseman Jeremy Hamilton (Philadelphia Phillies, fifth round), shortstop Justin Parker (Arizona Diamondbacks, sixth round) and outfielder Ross Vagedes (Chicago Cubs, 35th round).

Dynamo plays even with AFC Ann Arbor
DAYTON — The only goal AFC Ann Arbor was able to score came off a Dayton Dynamo own goal in the 43rd minute of Friday’s soccer game at Welcome Stadium. Alex Vandersluijs scored the Dynamo goal in the 89th minute. Dayton lost a friendly to the Knoxville Force on Sunday at Welcome. The two teams played again on Monday in Knoxville.
The Dynamo is on the road Friday for a match against the Michigan Stars. Their next home contest will be Sunday when they’ll take on Grand Rapids FC.
Lions Women defeat Columbus
WEST CARROLLTON — The Dayton Dutch Lions FC women’s team claimed a 3-0 win over the Columbus Eagles, Saturday at Dayton Outpatient Center (DOC) Stadium.
The Lions’ Rose Lavelle had the only goal of the first half. She had Dayton’s second goal in the 80th minute as well. Meghan Blank then took a pass from Mattie Cutts in the 87th minute for the final tally.
The Dutch Lions (4-0) will next host the Cincinnati Sirens at 7 p.m. Friday, June 24.

SW Ohio Track Club program under way
YELLOW SPRINGS — The Southwest Ohio Track Club’s Summer Track and Field Program has begun. This program is open to youth (7 years older) and older (including Masters). Practices are on 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday at Yellow Springs HS through July 21. The summer program is a certified USATF program with excellent coaching and training.
