XENIA — The host Xenia Scouts took advantage of some wild Richmond Jazz pitching to claim a 4-1 win Wednesday night at the Athlete In Action Complex’s Grady’s Field.

With two out in the bottom of the seventh inning and the score tied at 1-all, Cary Holloway singled to center, stole second, reached third on a walk and then scored on the first Jazz wild pitch.

Aaron Vallance, batting behind Holloway, drew a walk, advanced to second on a walk to John Sharpe, then scored on the next wild pitch.

In all, Richmond pitching gave up three walks in the inning and the two costly wild pitches.

Richmond (0-4) got on the scoreboard first when Pillin Mucha doubled into right field to score Reid Pittard from second base in the top of the third inning.

Evan McDonald doubled down the third base line to tie things up and score Ryan O’Hearn from second in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Middle reliever Walter Rook IV was credited with the Scouts pitching win. Colt Wolfe was the only Xenia batter with multiple hits with two. He and McDonald each drove in a run, and the Scouts out-hit the Jazz 6-5.

With the win, Xenia is now back to .500 in the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League’s South Division standings with a 2-2 record. They also defeated Richmond on Tuesday night.

The Scouts will host the Cincinnati Steam at 7:05 p.m. tonight at AIA’s Grady’s Field. According to the GLSCL website, Caleb Fernholz, a Wisconsin righthander from the University of St. Thomas, will be the starting pitcher for Xenia.

Cincinnati is currently tied with the Hamilton Joes atop the GLSCL South Division standings with 4-0 records.
