Norman claims world records at Indy race

INDIANAPOLIS — Jamestown resident and Xenia Christian student athlete Grace Norman established two world records in women’s T-44 class running this past weekend at the Fast Cow Paralympic Track & Field meet, at Michael A. Carroll Stadium on the Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis campus.

On Saturday, Norman ran the 800-meter race against a pair of wheelchair competitors and finished second overall with a world record T-44 division time of 2:28.88, nearly 10 seconds better than the previous world mark.

Then on Sunday, Norman came back to better that 800-meter time by a second at 2:27.88 to re-establish that world record. She followed that up with her second world record of the meet: Norman blazed the Carroll Stadium track in 4:58.69 to set a new provisional world record in the 1500-meter run as well.

According to the USA Track & Field website, Norman also won the women’s T-44 400-meter race in a time of 65.66.

Multi-sport camp coming next month

The City of Beavercreek in cooperation with Skyhawks Sports is offering Multi Sport Camp for ages 3-4, combining soccer and basketball. This camp is designed to introduce children to a variety of sports in one setting. Young athletes will learn the rules and essential skills of each sport along with life lessons such as respect and teamwork.

Camp will be held from 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. on July 20-July 24 at Dominick Lofino Park, 640 Grange Hall Road. Resident fee is $55 and non-resident fee is $65.

Mini Hawk camp hosted by Skyhawks Sports

The City of Beavercreek in cooperation with Skyhawks Sports is offering Mini Hawk (Baseball, Flag Football and Soccer) Sport Camp for children ages 4-7. Through games and activities, campers explore balance, hand/eye coordination, and skill development at their own pace.

Camp is scheduled for 1 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. July 20-24 at Dominick Lofino Park, 640 Grange Hall Road. Resident fee is $109 and non-resident fee is $125.

Register for tennis camp

The City of Beavercreek is offering Jump Start Tennis Camp, July 13-17 at Lofino Park, 640 Grange Hall Road for children ages 6-12. Beginners will receive instruction on the fundamentals of the game, developing skills, ball control, stroke techniques and practice habits and court etiquette. Intermediates will improve on basic fundamentals but will learn how to play the game of tennis in match situations. Programs fill quickly due to limited court space. Resident fee is $45 and non-resident fee is $52.

The camps will take place at the following times:

Ages 6-7: 9 a.m. – 10 a.m.

Ages 8-9: 10 a.m. – 11 a.m.

Ages 10-12: 11 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Lacrosse camp teaches funadmentals

City of Beavercreek Parks and Recreation in cooperation with Jump Start Sports is offering Lacrosse Camp for children ages 5-12. Camp will be held 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. July 6-10 at Rotary Park.

Lacrosse has the elements of soccer, football, basketball and hockey. Campers will learn passing, catching, fielding ground balls, cradling, spacing, positioning and defense. Resident fee is $95 while non-resident is $110.

Beavercreek Parks and Recreation in cooperation with Jump Start Sports is offering Flag Football Camp for children ages 6-12.

Campers will learn the basic fundamentals of football in an atmosphere that emphasizes sportsmanship, teamwork and the joy of sports. Activities include daily flag football games as well as fun games and contests such as “Punt, Pass and Kick” and “NFL Fast Football.” The camp is scheduled for 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. July 13-17 at Rotary Park. Resident fee is $95 and non-resident fee is $110.

Cheerleading camp set for next month

The City of Beavercreek in cooperation with Jump Start Sports is offering Cheerleading Camp for children ages 6-12. Campers will learn a variety of cheers, jumps, kicks, movements and fun cheerleading games. Children will decorate uniforms or pom poms to use at an exhibition on the last day of camp.

The camp held will be held from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. July 13-17 at Rotary Park. Resident fee is $95 and non-resident fee is $110.

Bullets Baseball looking to expand

After a successful 8U season in the Midwest Ohio Baseball League around the Dayton and Columbus area, the Bullets Baseball team is looking to add a 9U and 11U team in 2016.

Players can be from anywhere in the Greater Dayton, Springfield, Richmond area and practice will begin in early to mid-January and the season will go through July 4. The Bullets use indoor practice facilities at Action Sports and a brand new facility in New Carlisle.

Fees are $400 to cover uniforms, practice sites, league and tournament fees, umpires, etc. Each team will play at least 30 league games, non-league games, and tournament game. Home games are played at Action Sports (8U home field may be north of Dayton).

There are two upcoming tryouts. The first tryout will be held from 6 – 8 p.m. July 9 at Action Sports Center, 1103 Gateway Dr. Dayton, OH 45404. 11U will practice on field no. 4, 9U will be on field no. 7 and 8U will be on field no. 8.

The second tryout will be held from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. July 18 at Action Sports Center. 11U will practice on field no. 5, 9U will be on field no. 7 and 8U will be on field no. 8.

Wright State volleyball releases 2015 schedule

FAIRBORN — Fifteen home matches, including two tournaments, highlight the 2015 Wright State volleyball schedule, which was announced on Tuesday.

The Raiders, under fourth-year head coach Susan Clements, open the season at home August 28-29 with the first of their two home tournaments this season – the Wright State Invitational at the C.J. McLin Gymnasium. WSU will be welcoming in Evansville, Niagara and Tennessee Tech for the two-day affair.

Wright State then opens September with a match at local rival Miami before heading to Bowling Green for the Hampton Inn Invitational September 4-5, taking on the host Falcons along with IPFW and Loyola.

The following weekend, September 11-12, has the Raiders hosting the Holiday Inn Tournament, while the final tournament of the season for WSU will be The Citadel Tournament, September 18-19 in Charleston, South Carolina. The Raiders take on the host Bulldogs along with North Florida and UNC Asheville.

After a home match with Morehead State on Tuesday, September 22, the remainder of the schedule consists of 16 Horizon League matches, two more than last season with the addition of Northern Kentucky to the league. The Horizon League Tournament is set for November 20-22 at the site of the regular-season champion.
