Xenia taking Hall of Fame nominations

XENIA — Nominations for Class of 2016 inductees into the Xenia Athletic Hall of Fame are now being accepted.

A nomination form can be obtained by going to the Xenia Community Schools official website, then to the Athletics link, and then to the Athletic Hall of Fame link. An individual, a team, a coach, and/or a community contributor can be nominated. These nominations can be for those athletes, teams, coaches, and community contributors who were associated with Xenia Central, Xenia High School, Xenia East, and/or Spring Valley. Nominations will be considered from all eras. The deadline to submit nomination forms is April 6.

SIGNUPS

Xenia YRC baseball, softball signups Sunday

XENIA — The final day for Xenia Youth Recreation Club softball and baseball league signups will take place from noon-3 p.m. Sunday. Registrations can be made on the second floor of the Eagles Lodge, 682 W. 2nd St., in Xenia during that time.

Boys and girls teams for kids ages 3-16 are still available. Registration costs range from $75-95, depending on the age of the ballplayer. Games will be played at Evans Acres, 640 Birch Rd. in Xenia. Girls softball games are set to begin on April 18, youth games for players 8-up will start on May 2 and the Xenia YRC’s official opening day will take place on May 7.

Rotary Club outing, May 20

BEAVERCREEK — The Rotary Club of Beavercreek will host the 34th Annual Beavercreek Rotary Club Memorial Golf Outing Friday, May 20 at the City of Beavercreek Golf Club.

The four-team scramble format will provide prizes for skills competitions throughout the day. Check in begins at 11 a.m. with a shotgun start slated for 12:30 p.m. The awards ceremony will follow the scramble at 5 p.m. on the patio overlooking the course.

Cost for the scramble is $100 per person; $400 per foursome. The fee includes greens fee, cart, lunch, and refreshments. Registration is currently open. In addition, there are several opportunities for organizations to sponsor the event, including.

All proceeds from the event will benefit the Beavercreek Schools’ Multi-handicapped classrooms, Wright State University scholarships, STEM fellowships and Owen’s Place.

Kil-Kare Practice Tree champs crowned

XENIA — Winners of the inaugural Kil-Kare Dragway practice tree competition were announced on Wednesday. In the Top Bulb category, Carson Griffith claimed first prize with a final-round win over Charles Yeager.

Yeager also finished as the runner-up in the Bottom Bulb category, which was won by Michael Sturgill.

Kil-Kare Dragway will open up for its 2016 Drag Racing season on April 9 when the Xenia, Ohio facility will host the Spring Street Car Nationals.

RUNNING

Spring Has Sprung 5K April 2

XENIA — Registration is now open for Greene County Public Health’s Seventh Annual Spring Has Sprung Healthy Families 5K Run-Walk Saturday, April 2 at the Xenia YMCA located at 135 E. Church St.

This event supports the efforts of the health district to provide and promote healthier lifestyle choices in Greene County, and encourages healthy, active lifestyles in Greene County.

Registration and check-in will begin at 7:30 a.m. at the Xenia YMCA with the pet- and stroller-friendly run-walk beginning at 9 a.m. The course features a flat terrain in and around the Xenia area beginning and ending at the Xenia YMCA. Afterwards, healthy refreshments will be provided and participants can visit the various sponsors and vendors in the gymnasium.

The cost is $15 per person by March 25, which includes an event T-shirt. After March 25, the cost is $20 per person – T-shirt not guaranteed. Teams of 10 or more are eligible to receive a discount. Medals will be awarded to the top three male/female in each age category and a grand prize will be awarded for the top male/female overall.

The Greene County Health District is looking for additional sponsors for the event. Baseball Buddies program back at Fifth Third Field

DAYTON — Visit your local Kroger store to sign up for a chance to be a Baseball Buddy! Kids (ages 7-13) who are randomly selected as winners will get the experience of a lifetime. To enter, look for the display at your local Kroger store (at the Customer Service Desk).

The Kroger Baseball Buddies experience includes:

· Hanging out in the dugout during pre-game to meet the Dragons players

· Getting autographs and photos with the Dragons team

· Being introduced over the PA like a player

· Running out on the field with the team before that day’s game

Kroger Baseball Buddies will also receive several gifts including:
