Bulldogs defeat Frankin Monroe
ARCANUM — Visiting Yellow Springs won a see-saw battle with Franklin Monroe on Monday. After trailing 8-6, Yellow Springs outscored the Jets 16-8 in the second quarter, were outscored 15-6 in the third, before soaring past Franklin Monroe 14-5 in the fourth quarter for a 42-36 win.
The Bulldogs (2-20) closed out the regular season with two wins in their final three games. Elizabeth Smith led Yellow Springs with 23 points and eight rebounds, and Julian Roberts was next with 17 points and six rebounds.
Twelfth-seeded Yellow Springs will begin Division IV sectional tournament play at 6 p.m. Feb. 16 when they’ll play either top-seeded New Madison Tri-Village or no. 13 seed Springfield Catholic Central. That second-round game is scheduled to be played at Brookville High School.
Ambassadors romp over Northeastern
SPRINGFIELD — Xenia Christian jumped out to a 31-13 halftime lead and cruised to a 51-28 win Monday over host Northeastern. No individual statistics were available from the game.
The Ambassadors (18-4) closed out the regular season with three consecutive wins. They won eight of their final nine games.
Xenia Christian opens the Division IV sectional postseason as the sectional’s fourth seed. They have a game at 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 13 against fifth-seeded South Charleston Southeastern. That game takes place at Brookville High School.

Central State cruises past Wilberforce, 74-55
WILBERFORCE — The Central State Lady Marauders used the second and third quarters to take control and separate themselves, leading to a 74-55 win over Wilberforce University on Monday night.
Central State outscored Wilberforce in the paint, 34-14. The CSU reserves combined for 29 points compared to 14 bench points from Wilberforce.
Jordyn Bond led CSU with 16 points. Sierra Harley had 14 points, 3 assists and 3 steals. Shannon DeFoe came off the bench to finish with 10 points and 7 rebounds. With the win, Central State improved to 10-11 on the season.
Brooklyn Peterson was the lone bright spot for WU as she finished with a game-high 22 points and 6 assists.
Central State will be off until Saturday when they host Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference rival Kentucky State at 1 p.m.
Demmings named high-major Player of the Week
Senior guard Kim Demmings of the women’s basketball team was selected as the College Sports Madness High-Major Player of the Week for the week ending February 7, it was announced on Monday.
Demmings (Richmond, Ind.) averaged 26 points, five rebounds and three assists over two games last week while shooting 37 percent from the field, 33 percent from three-point range and 93 percent at the foul line.
This is the second time that Demmings has been selected as the High-Major Player of the Week as she also received the honor on November 22. She has also been named as the Horizon League Player of the Week on November 22, November 29 and January 18.
Demmings, who was named to the Naismith Trophy Women’s 50 Watch List in December, currently leads the Horizon League in scoring average (20.0), is third in three-pointers made per game (2.5), 14th in steals per game (1.3) and 16th in rebounding (5.8). In league play, she is first in scoring (20.2), fourth in threes made per game (2.5), 13th in assists per game (2.8) and 15th in rebounding (5.8).
Demmings, who is Wright State’s all-time scoring leader (men’s and women’s) and the Horizon League all-time scoring leader for women’s basketball, now has 2,458 career points, which is second among current Division I players and 70th all-time.
College Sports Madness High-Major conferences are the Atlantic 10, Colonial, Conference USA, Horizon, Mid-American, Missouri Valley, Mountain West and West Coast.
Wright State (18-6, 8-3 Horizon) travels to Northern Kentucky, Saturday night, for a 7 p.m. contest.

Central State tops Wilberforce, 67-65
WILBERFORCE – Another chapter in the Central State – Wilberforce rivalry came to a close with a dramatic ending as CSU junior guard Sterling Gilmore came up with the game-winning basket to help CSU escape Wilberforce’s campus with a 67-65 win on Monday night.
Gilmore, who hit the game-winning free throws on Saturday in a 73-72 win over Lemoyne-Owen, came up with the game-winner for CSU once more as the junior drove the lane and hit the off-balanced shot to put his team up 67-65. The Bulldogs had two good looks to extend the game but a Patrick Mitchell three pointer hit the front of the rim and a jumper from Devontae Berry came up short as the CSU players and fans celebrated on the Wilberforce court.
Central State enjoyed balanced scoring in the victory. Sean Cassidy, Jr., who transferred from Wilberforce to CSU for his senior season, finished with a game-high 12 points. Hosie Smith, Jr., Jeremy Brown and Dymiere Finch each finished with 9 points. Tre’ Edwards, Robert Konteh and Sterling Gilmore each had 8 points as CSU took the two-game season series over Wilberforce and improved to 9-11 overall.
The Bulldogs were paced by Berry and Michael Forrest, who each finished with 11 points.
The Marauders return to Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference competition when they host rival Kentucky State in the final home game of the season at 8 p.m. this Saturday. Central State will honor its four departing seniors during pre-game.

Beavercreek hosting baseball clinic
BEAVERCREEK — The Beavercreek High School varsity baseball team will hold its sixth annual baseball clinic for ages U8 through U14 on March 12 in the school’s main and auxiliary gymnasiums.
Cost is $30 per player (ages 8-10) and $40 for players 11-14 years of age. A clinic T-shirt will be provided to all who participate.
The U8-U10 clinic runs from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. The U11-U14 clinic takes place from 1-3 p.m., with a pitchers only session from 3-4 p.m.
Bring a baseball glove, bat and helmet. If weather permits, the camp may be held outside. Please bring cleats and suitable clothing to the camp.
All proceeds from the camp benefit the Beavercreek varsity baseball team.
