Scouts pitcher named Pitcher of the Week

XENIA — Quentin “Q” McGrath, a pitcher for the Xenia Scouts, has started the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League baseball season in dominating fashion.

McGrath was named the Pitcher of the Week by members of the staffs of all of the teams in the GLSCL. He finished the week of June 8-14 with a 2-0 record, 0.00 ERA, and 12 strikeouts. He had victories against the Licking County Settlers and the Cincinnati Steam including 7 and 2/3 innings of hitless baseball in the latter of the two victories.

McGrath is from East Central University in Ada, Okla.

Perez, Griffey Sr. to manage All-Star Futures teams

CINCINNATI — Hall of Famer Tony Perez and Cincinnati Reds legend Ken Griffey Sr., who were teammates on the 1975 and 1976 “Big Red Machine” World Series Championship teams, will return to the dugouts to manage in the 2015 SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game on Sunday July, 12 at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati. Perez, a native of Camaguey, Cuba, will lead the World Team, while Griffey will manage the U.S. Team.

The SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game, which is now in its 17th year, features the top Minor League prospects competing in a nine-inning contest as part of All-Star Sunday. The U.S. Team leads the all-time series, 10-6.

As part of its live All-Star Week programming, MLB Network will exclusively televise and MLB.com will live stream the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game at 3 p.m., live from Great American Ball Park.

The remainder of the coaching staffs, as well as rosters and umpires for the 2015 SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game will be announced in the coming weeks.

The 2015 All-Star Game will be played at Great American Ball Park on Tuesday, July 14. Seven Wright State athletes named to All-Academic Teams

The Horizon League released its spring all-academic teams Wednesday, with seven Raiders making the cut.

Wright State baseball’s Michael Timm is a repeat honoree. The senior was also honored in 2012-13 and 2013-14.

To be eligible for Academic All-Horizon League consideration, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or higher and have completed at least one year at the member institution.

Faculty athletics representatives and sports information directors in the league make the selections to the teams.

The seven honorees are: Senior Michael Timm (baseball), Finance 3.82; Senior Mark Fowler (baseball), Management 3.21; Sophomore Sean Murphy (baseball), Economics 3.71; Senior Jess Gorman (softball), Sports Science 3.59; Senior Lauri Makikalli (men’s tennis), Marketing 3.28; Sophomore Lynsey Verstrepen (women’s tennis), International Business 3.85; Graduate Student Jena Studabaker (women’s track), Economics 4.00.
