Siefert to compete in Junior National swim meet

XENIA — Xenia High School junior Hank Siefert will compete in the Speedo Winter Junior Championships-East swimming competition Dec. 9-12, at Georgia Tech University in Atlanta, Ga.

Siefert, 17, is entered in the 100-, 200- and 500-yard freestyle competitions as a swimmer representing the Coffman YMCA in Springboro.

Siefert’s seed time of 52.45 seconds in the 100-yard freestyle is 36th quickest out of 91 entrants. His 200-yard freestyle time of 1:39.42 is 30th best out of 94 entries, and his 4:30.30 time in the 500 is 24th quick out of 74 competitors.

The Xenia Buccaneer placed eighth at the OHSAA state championships last season in the 200-yard freestyle final with a time of 1:40.66.

According to collegeswimming.com, Siefert is the second-ranked Class of 2017 swimmer in Ohio, and he’s ranked 45th nationally among his 2017 class.

Xenia Christian defeats Yellow Springs

YELLOW SPRINGS — Katie Riddle scored 23 points for the visiting Ambassadors in Monday’s 65-43 Metro Buckeye Conference win over Yellow Springs.

Elizabeth Smith let Yellow Springs with a 23-point outing of her own in the loss.

Xenia Christian (4-1, 2-0 MBC) will host Dayton Christian at 6:45 p.m. Thursday. Yellow Springs (0-6, 0-2 MBC) travels to play at Miami Valley at 7 p.m. that same day.

Bellbrook 42, Northmont 37 — No other details were reported from Monday’s game in Clayton. Bellbrook is now 5-0 overall and will play at Carroll at 7:30 p.m. tonight.

Beavercreek edges Lakota East

BEAVERCREEK — Kayla Shields led the Beavers with 18 points scored and six rebounds, and Maddi Shannon finished with 14 points as Beavercreek defeated Lakota East, 55-43, on Monday. Beavercreek (5-0) hosts Trotwood-Madison at 7:30 p.m. tonight.

Fairborn doubles up Piqua to win

PIQUA — Visiting Fairborn (2-4) outscored Piqua 22-11 in the second half of Monday’s basketball game to claim a 39-25 win.

Evelyn Oktavec was the top scorer for the Skyhawks with 11 points, while Kaylie Cook and Courtney Mustard finished with eight points each, and Chloe Johnson and Megan Williams each had six.

Mikayla Schaffner led Piqua with a game-high 13 points and Macie Schaffner finished with nine.

The Skyhawks return to action at 7 p.m. tonight when they will host Greenville. Piqua (0-4) plays at Kettering Fairmont.

Tecumseh 82, Xenia 34 — No other details were reported from Monday’s game in New Carlisle. Xenia hosts Springfield at 7:30 p.m. tonight.

Boys Basketball

Greeneview 57, Triad 50

JAMESTOWN — Ethan Bradds scored a game-high 32 points and Rams teammate Austin Petry added 15 as Greeneview claimed an Ohio Heritage Conference win Friday over North Lewisburg Triad.

The Rams played at East Clinton on Saturday. Their next scheduled game is Friday when they play at Springfield Catholic Central.

Yellow Jackets win in overtime

CEDARVILLE — The hosts outscored Cincinnati Christian 18-9 in overtime to claim Saturday’s 90-81 win at the Callan Athletic Center on the Cedarville University campus.

J.C. Faubion scored a game-high 35 points to lead the Yellow Jackets (3-5). Easton Bazzoli scored 11 points, Justice Montgomery added 10, while Robert Okoro, Colton Linkous and Kwenton Scott scored eight points each.

Cincinnati Christian (4-4) had five players score in double figures, led by Khari Burton’s 15.

Cedarville has now won three straight games. They will host Mount Vernon Nazarene at 7:45 p.m. Saturday at the Callan Center.

Women’s Basketball

Cedarville sinks Wilberforce

CEDARVILLE — Cedarville’s Kayla Linkous scored a game-high 16 points, Emily Williams scored 13 and teammates Abby Wolford and Breanne Watterworth scored a dozen each in Saturday’s 88-26 win over Wilberforce.

Kendra Moss led Wilberforce (2-10) with nine points, and Brooklynn Peterson finished with seven. Wilberforce will host St. Catherine’s College at 7 p.m. Friday.

Cedarville (4-3) hosts Mount Vernon Nazarene at 5:30 p.m. Saturday.

Women’s Soccer

Romero earns Regional honors

FAIRBORN — Niki Romero of the Wright State women’s soccer team was named the All-Great Lakes Region Second Team on Friday.

In her first year in the Horizon League, the Las Vegas native keyed a Wright State team that went to the Horizon League championship game before falling on a golden goal. The sophomore defender earned First Team All-Horizon League honors after helping the Raiders hold opponents to 0.85 goals per game.

Romero, who was also selected to the league’s All-Tournament Team, recorded an assist at Ball State.

“I’m proud of Niki and she is worthy of this recognition,” said WSU head coach Pat Ferguson said. “She is a consummate team player who has a bright future.”

The Raiders finished with a 9-8-2 record, winning the final four regular-season games.
