Pyle HL Defensive Player of the Week
INDIANAPOLIS — For the second time this season, Wright State senior goalkeeper Halle Pyle has been selected as the Horizon League Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, it was announced Monday by the league office.
Pyle (Centerville) notched her fourth shutout of the season and the sixth by the Raiders overall on Friday as WSU won 2-0 at Detroit to clinch the #4 seed for the Horizon League Tournament. She collected four saves, three in the second half, as she tallied her eighth career shutout.
Pyle previously received the honor on September 8 after recording a shutout win at Dayton. For the season, she has posted a 0.70 goals against average with 60 saves. The goals against average rank Pyle third in the Horizon League while the saves are fifth.
Wright State (9-7-1, 5-3-1 Horizon) defeated Valparaiso 2-1 in first-round action on Monday at Alumni Field in Fairborn. The semifinals and finals will be held in Milwaukee on Thursday and Saturday, respectively, with the winner receiving an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Four Raiders on All-Horizon League teams
Four members of the Wright State women’s soccer team were honored as the Horizon League announced its postseason awards on Monday.
Sophomore midfielders Bryce Hueber and Niki Romero were each selected to the First Team while senior midfielder Ashley Gogolin was named to the Second Team and forward Aaliyah Patten to the All-Freshman Team.
Hueber (Cincinnati Summit Country Day) leads the Raiders and is tied for eighth in the league with 14 points while her six goals are tied for the team lead and tied for sixth in the league.
A member of the league’s All-Newcomer Team last season, Hueber tallied two goals against Youngstown State and one each versus Valparaiso, UIC, Green Bay and Detroit, with the UIC, Youngstown State, Green Bay and Detroit goals being game-winners. The four game-winning goals tie her for second in the league and she also recorded assists at Louisville and against Belmont.
Romero (Las Vegas West) was part of the Raider defense that posted a 0.86 goals against average for the season, including six shutouts. She also assisted Wright State’s goal at Ball State and attempted eight shots overall.
Gogolin (Gahanna Lincoln), along with her contributions on the WSU defense, also chipped in to the offense with assists against Youngstown State and at Green Bay. Selected to the All-Newcomer Team in 2012, this is the third consecutive year that Gogolin has been named to the Second Team.
Patten (Fairborn) scored WSU’s lone goal at Louisville and recorded an assist against Youngstown State as she recorded 13 shots on the season, nine of those on goal.
Stover, Miller Named HL Swimmers of the Week
Wright State’s Mitch Stover and Samantha Miller have been selected as the Horizon League Male and Female Swimmers of the Week, respectively, for the week ending Nov. 1, it was announced Tuesday by the league office.
Stover (Versailles) put together an impressive week, winning all six individual events he competed in and both relay events. Against Milwaukee on Friday, Oct. 30, the sophomore won the 100 backstroke (50.93), the 200 backstroke (1:51.99) and the 200 individual medley (1:54.51) and was part of the winning 200 medley relay team.
Stover then won three more events versus Green Bay on Saturday, Oct. 31, taking the 100 backstroke (50.79), the 200 backstroke (1:50.91) and the 400 individual medley (4:03.18). He was also part of the winning 400 medley relay team.
Miller (Fremont Ross) finished first in two events against Milwaukee, winning the 50 freestyle (24.20) and 100 freestyle (53.28). The senior was also part of the 200 medley relay team that set a new WSU Natatorium record (1:46.75). Against Green Bay, Miller won the 100 freestyle (52.88).
Wright State returns to action at 1 p.m. Nov. 14 as the Raiders travel to Oakland to face the Golden Grizzlies and Illinois-Chicago.
SIAC Championship tickets on sale
ATLANTA – Tickets for the 2015 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Football Championship game are on sale and available for online purchase to the general public.

The 2015 SIAC Football Championship will feature division winners from the east and west at Cramton Bowl at 6 p.m. Central Time on Saturday, Nov. 14.
Albany State (5-3 overall, 3-0 SIAC) and Fort Valley State (5-3, 3-0) will battle it out for the east division title on Nov. 7 in the 26th Annual Fountain City Classic at A.J. McClung Memorial Stadium in Columbus, Ga.
In the west division, Tuskegee (8-1, 4-0) and Miles (5-4, 4-0) will meet for the divisional championship on Nov. 7 at Abbott Memorial Alumni Stadium in Tuskegee, Ala.
For the second time in league history, the SIAC will host its football championship in Montgomery, Ala. The SIAC is slated to hold the championship game at the Cramton Bowl for one more season.
