COLLEGE

All-Ohio returns to Cedarville University on Friday

CEDARVILLE — Cedarville University will again host the All-Ohio Intercollegiate Championships on Friday at the Elvin R. King Cross Country Course.

It’s the sixth year in a row that the Yellow Jackets have welcomed the state’s largest intercollegiate cross country meet to campus.

The 61st annual men’s championship 8K race will be at 2p.m. The 35th annual women’s championship 6K is scheduled for 2:45.

A total of 54 schools from NCAA Division I, Division II, Division III, NAIA, and junior colleges will be represented. More than 1,400 runners are expected to participate.

Akron is the two-time defending men’s champion while Malone is the reigning women’s champ.

As expected, Division I schools have dominated the overall titles. The only ‘small’ schools to win the women’s trophy are Cedarville (2008) and Malone (2014).

On the men’s side, Malone has won the overall crown eight times with the last one coming in 2008. Other non-Division I schools to win are Oberlin (1955) and Ohio Wesleyan (1956).

The course is located just off State Route 72 north of the Village of Cedarville. Parking is $7.00 per vehicle for all fans.

15th Annual Turkey Shoot Golf Outing

WGC Golf Course in partnership with Groceryland will be hosting the 15th Annual Turkey Shoot golf outing on Saturday, October 10, 2015 with all proceeds going to charity.

Each year, this event has served more and more of Xenia’s needy. The money is given to Groceryland, who then distributes vouchers for a complete Thanksgiving dinners to the FISH Pantry. In addition, VISX (Volunteers In Service for Xenia) serves over 500 free Thanksgiving dinners. This year the dinner will be served at the Xenia Adult Recreation and Services Center on East Church Street and they will deliver Thanksgiving meals to shut ins. The Turkey Shoot donation has provided the food for these dinners for the past nine years.

The first fourteen Turkey Shoots have generated close to $80,000 in donations, which has gone far in helping thousands of people in need.

For a $55 donation, participants get golf, cart, gift of appreciation for our 15th year, all the burgers, hot dogs, chili, hot chocolate and pop that you want AND there is a contest on every hole. Those interested can be a Hole sponsor for $65.

Volunteers can also donate prizes for the raffle. Any donations are greatly appreciated.

We appreciate any assistance you might be able to provide. Contact Deanna Lockstedt at 372-1202 or [email protected] with any questions.
