NORTH CANTON — The Cedarville University Yellow Jackets placed third, Nov 3, in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s Cross Country Championship on a sloppy 8,000-meter course, against a field that featured three nationally-ranked teams.

“We ran well, but it wasn’t well enough to win. Malone, who had the 1, 3 and 8 finishers, did and Walsh had some runners step up. That made the difference in both of them beating us,” Cedarville Head Coach Paul Orchard said. “Classen and Sullivan were solid, but we’ll need a little more from the other three as we look forward to the regional.”

U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division II No. 18 Malone won the 13-team meet at Glenoak High School with 48 points. Host and No. 20-ranked Walsh recorded 51 points for runner-up honors while No. 17 Cedarville had 58 points.

Trenton Classen finished third and Ethan Sullivan was fourth. Both were credited with the identical time of 26:48.2 and both were All-G-MAC First Team recipients.

Alec Weinhold was named to the second team upon placing 12th in 27:13.3.

The remainder of the Yellow Jackets’ top seven included Caleb Pendleton (17th; 27:23.0), Russell Schultz (22nd; 27:37.2), Andrew Sholl (25th; 27:44.5) and Ethan Gatchell (26th; 27:45.3).

The team will race again in the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional on Saturday, Nov. 17 at Hillsdale, Mich.
