FAIRBORN — The Fairborn Skyhawks couldn’t slow down Sidney’s fast freshman in their third loss in a row, 47-33, Friday night at Baker Memorial Stadium.

Andre Gordon finished with 107 yards and a touchdown on the ground in addition to 224 yards through the air. He was 11-14 on pass attempts with two passing touchdowns on the night.

Fairborn coach Roy Thobe said it was pretty obvious why the Skyhawks had trouble containing him.

“He’s pretty doggone good, that’s why. We saw it on field. You like to think that just because he’s a freshman, you can get some hits on him, but he’s good. He thrives out in the open field, that’s for sure.”

Isaiah Bowser also found success running the ball, finishing with 143 yards and two rushing touchdowns on the night for the Yellow Jackets.

Although the Skyhawks gave up 311 yards rushing, they were able to get their own running game going. KJ Redmon finished with 116 rushing yards and one touchdown. Quarterback Brent Grody had 42 yards and a touchdown as well.

“We’ve got to take some positives. We’ve got to take what we did well and move on,” said Thobe. “We just need to start playing more consistently. We’ll do something right one play, and on the next play we’ll have a bust. We need to clean that up.”

The passing game wasn’t as fluid for Fairborn as it has been in previous games. Grody was 6-for-18 for 67 yards and a touchdown. Wesley Watts, who also saw time at quarterback, had 104 yards on 7-for-11 attempts with one touchdown and two interceptions.

The Skyhawks were successful in the return game. They had 162 yards on kickoff returns, including a 90-yard touchdown from Gracen Barnhart.

This marks the third loss in a row for Fairborn. Thobe said that his team still has hope that they can bounce back.

“They’re bummed out. Any time you lose, you don’t like it. You lose at home and it’s a little bit worse. We put a lot of time and energy to try and get back to .500, but now we have an uphill battle.”

Fairborn (1-3) hits the road next week to take on the Indians at 7 p.m. next Friday at Piqua High School.
