Dragons, Dayton Development Coalition to honor service men and women
DAYTON — The Dayton Dragons, in partnership with the Dayton Development Coalition (DDC), will host the second “Hometown Heroes Celebration Night” this year at 7 p.m. today at Fifth Third Field when the Dragons play the Burlington Bees.
As part of the season-long celebration of the Hometown Heroes program, the DDC and community will take time to pay tribute to all service men and women associated with Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and the Springfield Air National Guard Base for the 12th consecutive year.
“2015 marks the 12th consecutive year of our Hometown Heroes program with the Dayton Dragons,” said DDC President and CEO Jeff Hoagland. “Hometown Heroes is one small way for the Dayton region to recognize the Air Force and its leadership for their commitment to the region and their service to our great country. As many know, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base is the State of Ohio’s largest single-site employer and a huge economic driver for our economy — with more than 26,000 active-duty and civilian employees. We have continued to work with partners across the region to grow and expand our Hometown Heroes celebration in an effort to showcase our appreciation for Wright-Patt, its Airmen and the military families who call our region home.”
During the game, Col. John Devillier, Commander of the 88th Air Base Wing WPAFB, will swear in 19 new Air Force recruits.
Col. Bryan Davis, the 178th Winger Commander at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and Col. Doral Sandlin, Air Force Institute of Technology Commandant, will both be throwing out a first pitch.
Wright Brass will be performing the National Anthem and God Bless America. During the National Anthem, the Wright Patterson Air Force Base Honor Guard will present the colors and children of airmen from the base will unveil a giant flag across the outfield grass.
On the plaza there will be a Security Forces Humvee and the 445 Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron that will showcase equipment used on evacuation missions aboard an aircraft. The Dragons Entertainment staff will also be handing out mini flags.
