Cash only please. Ticket sales end Friday at 2 p.m. at both the Middle and Elementary Schools and at 3 p.m. at the High School. Children under 6 are admitted free.

Tornadoes cease operation

XENIA — The Xenia Tornadoes semi-pro football organization announced Oct. 31 on its Facebook page that it would not operate during the upcoming 2018 season.

In a brief statement, the organization said “Thank you to all who have reached out to be apart of the Xenia Tornadoes, unfortunately we will not be operating in the 2018 Season. If you’re looking for quality teams to play for, we can point you in the right direction.”

The Facebook post then provided contact information for area semi-pro teams Ohio Valley Saints, Ohio Rage, Dayton Hornets and the Ohio Crush. Their Facebook address is: www.facebook.com/XENIATORNADOES/.

CSU to play Saturday

JACKSON, Tenn. — Central State University Marauders football team travels to Lane College 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4. They will play Lane in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action. The Marauders are 1-8, 0-5 in the SIAC. The Lane Dragons are 1-8, 0-5. Central State is 7-1 against Lane in the all-time series. The programs first met in 1973.

Bulldogs fall short

WILBERFORCE — Despite forcing 24 turnovers and four Wilberforce University Bulldogs scoring in double digits; they fell short to the Point Park University Pioneers 100-94 on Oct. 30.

The Bulldogs finished the game shooting 38 percent from the field with senior guard Malik Breckenridge scoring 27 points; 5 of 9 from three point land, forward Lajuane Marshall with 20 points and guard Austin Daniels with 16.

The Pioneers also placed four players in double figures with guard Gavin Rajahpillary leading all scorers with 39 points.

Stover honored by league

FAIRBORN — Wright State University swimmer Mitch Stover has been named the Horizon League Swimmer of the Week, conference officials announced Oct. 31.

Stover, a native of Versailles, led the Raiders to a win over league foe Milwaukee, Saturday afternoon 168.5-93.5 as he won three races in the 100- and 200-meter butterfly, and the 200 individual medley. He was also part of the 200 medley relay team that set a new Wright State pool record. Stover’s time in the 100 fly also reached the U.S. Winter Nationals standard.

Yellow Jackets stumble

TIFFIN — Tiffin sent the Cedarville University women’s volleyball team down to its third straight defeat in a non-conference match played Oct. 31 at the Gillmor Center.

The Dragons, 16-12 overall, were winners by scores of 25-17, 25-23, 17-25, 25-22. The Lady Jackets fall to 15-14 on the season. Taylor Wilkerson led four players in double figures with 14 kills. Lauren Willow contributed 12 kills with a team-high five blocks. Krissy Pratt totaled 12 kills, 13 digs, and two service aces while Gabby Olson added 12 kills and three blocks.

Sachtleben recognized

CEDARVILLE — Yellow Jacket goalkeeper Graham Sachtleben has been recognized as the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week.

Sachtleben, a senior from Manassas, Va., came up big in the net in leading Cedarville to a win and a draw. He opened the week by making two saves in 65 minutes of action during a 1-1 double overtime tie at sixth-ranked and league-leading Ohio Valley. Sachtleben made eight saves in a 1-0 victory at defending champion Alderson Broaddus in a G-MAC Tournament quarterfinal match.

Jump Start basketball offered

BEAVERCREEK — City of Beavercreek Parks and Recreation in cooperation with Jump Start Sports is offering a basketball program for children. Jump Start Basketball is an instructional and recreational basketball program designed for children in Pre-Kindergarten & Kindergarten, and grades 1-2. The goal of this program is to pique each child’s curiosity, to get kids excited about playing basketball and to teach good basic fundamentals at the same time.

The workshop will be held, Nov. 6 through Dec. 11. Times for Little Hoops Stars – pre-kindergarten (minimum age 4), from 5:30-6:30 p.m.; Hoop Stars – Grades 1-2 are 6:30-7:30 p.m. at Shaw Elementary, 3560 Kemp Road. Bucs in Flyin’ to the Hoop

DAYTON — Xenia High will be among the area and national teams participating in the annual Flyin’ to the Hoop Invitational basketball showcase event.

The Buccaneers, led by junior Samari Curtis who is considered by the tournament as the pre-season fourth ranked junior in Ohio, are scheduled to play Olentangy Liberty at 1:15 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 13 at James S. Trent Arena, in Kettering.
