Cedarville hosts Ursuline

CEDARVILLE — The No. 4 seed Cedarville University Yellow Jackets welcome No. 5 Ursuline at 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28 to begin play in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference women’s college soccer championship.

Live video coverage will be available on Stretch Internet to go along with SIDEARM Stats. Cedarville enters the contest at 11-6-1 overall and 9-4-1 G-MAC while the Arrows are 7-7-1 and 7-6 G-MAC.

Ursuline recently visited Yellow Jacket Field on Oct. 19. The visitors had a 1-0 lead at the intermission, but CU netted three unanswered goals in the second half to take a 3-1 result. The Arrows hold a slim 8-7-3 margin in the all-time series between the two schools.

Ursuline has appeared in all five G-MAC Tournament final games ever played and won the 2014 trophy. Cedarville claimed the 2015 championship.

Two honored by Horizon League

FAIRBORN — Wright State University’s Nathan Dunn and Ryan Dunn were named to the Horizon League Men’s Cross Country All-Academic Team by league officials on Oct. 24.

Nathan Dunn, a sophomore Computer Science major, holds a 4.0 grade-point average. He has led the Raiders in all races this year with a 12th place finish at the Queen City Invitational and sixth at the Friendship Invitational.

Ryan Dunn, a junior Electrical Engineering major, holds a 4.0 GPA and placed 43rd at the Friendship Invitational. He was selected to the All-Academic Team in 2016 as well as the Horizon League Honor Roll.

The League All-Academic Teams are voted on by one faculty representative of each school. The Raiders will compete in the Horizon League meets this weekend, hosted by Oakland University.

Jackets ready for G-MAC quarterfinal

CEDARVILLE — No. 5 seed Cedarville travels to No. 4 Alderson Broaddus for a Great Midwest Athletic Conference quarterfinal contest at 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28 in Philippi, W.Va.

It’s a rematch of sorts of the 2016 G-MAC final which the Battlers won, 2-1, in overtime. The lone meeting this fall between the two sides occurred on Oct. 5 with AB winning 1-0 on a goal in the 53rd minute on its home turf. The Yellow Jackets lead the all-time series, 7-2-1.

Cedarville enters at 8-8-1 overall and 7-6 G-MAC after playing sixth-ranked Ohio Valley to a 1-1 draw in the regular season finale on Tuesday.

Alderson Broaddus is 8-8-2 and 7-5-2 G-MAC following a 1-0 setback at longtime rival Davis & Elkins on Tuesday.

CSU travels to Tuskegee

WILBERFORCE — The Cedarville University Marauders head to Tuskegee, Ala. to play the Tuskegee Golden Tigers for their next football game at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28.

The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game will be played at Abbott Memorial Stadium. CSU’s record is 1-7, 0-4 in the SIAC. The Tigers are 6-2, 4-0 in the SIAC.

Buccaneers Flyin’ to the Hoop

DAYTON — Tournament officials announced Oct. 10 that Xenia High will be among the area and national teams participating in the annual Flyin’ to the Hoop Invitational basketball showcase event.

The Buccaneers are scheduled to play Olentangy Liberty at 1:15 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 13 at James S. Trent Arena, in Kettering.

Basketball workshop in November

BEAVERCREEK — City of Beavercreek Parks and Recreation in cooperation with Jump Start Sports is offering a basketball program for children. Jump Start Basketball is an instructional and recreational basketball program designed for children in Pre-Kindergarten & Kindergarten, and grades 1-2. The goal of this program is to pique each child’s curiosity, to get kids excited about playing basketball and to teach good basic fundamentals at the same time.

The workshop will be held, Nov. 6 through Dec. 11. Times for Little Hoops Stars – pre-kindergarten (minimum age 4), from 5:30-6:30 p.m.; Hoop Stars – Grades 1-2 are 6:30-7:30 p.m. at Shaw Elementary, 3560 Kemp Road.
