BEAVERCREEK — Beavercreek defeated Lebanon in four sets 25-23, 25-9, 14-25, 25-21 on Sept. 12.

Sarah Laughman led with 16 kills and four blocks, Hanna Lefevers added 35 assists, two blocks and two kills, Lauren Goenaga-Lask had seven kills, three service aces and four digs, and Kelly Goenaga-Lask added six kills, two service aces and 11 digs in the win.

Beavercreek (10-2 overall and 4-1 in the Greater Western Conference’s National East division) is next at Miamisburg, for a 7 p.m. match on Thursday, Sept. 14.

Fairborn tops Green Wave

FAIRBORN — Joe Nickel scored three goals, and Matt Hoffman and Keegan Dierker each scored two as Fairborn defeated Greenville, 10-3, on Sept. 12. Zayne Pacifico, Troy Herald, and Rhees Adams each scored once.

Dierker also had four assists, while Pacifico, Tyler Manning, and Chris Lawrence-White each had one.

The Skyhawks were scheduled to host Trotwood-Madison at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 14.

Greeneview third in tri-meet

JAMESTOWN — Mason Witt was match medalist with a 36, but Greeneview came in third in a tri-meet Sept. 12 with a 257. Springfield Northeastern won with a 248, while West Liberty-Salem (254) was second.

Eli Beekman carded a 49 for the Rams.

Fairborn falls to Troy

FAIRBORN — Troy topped Fairborn, 25-14, 25-11, 25-13, in volleyball Sept. 12. Darby Ballard led with seven kills, while Elena North had three aces, four digs, and nine assists. Kayleigh Finlayson added 11 digs and four kills.

Carroll nets win over Greeneview

RIVERSIDE — Carroll swept singles matches en route to a 4-1 tennis win over Greeneview, Sept. 11, at Thomas Cloud Park.

Carroll’s Consuelo Gallegos-Ayala beat Ellie Adkins, 6-2, 6-4 at first singles, while Julia Stefanko topped Molly Nixon, 6-3, 6-1, at second singles and Alissa Otte beat Katy Hilbig, 6-1, 6-2, at third singles.

Carroll’s first doubles team of Heather Schwarzman and Zhenya Huber beat Erin Miller and Marinda Shoemaker, 6-4, 6-4, while the Greeneview team of Tori Chaney and Brooklyn Biggs beat Lauren Sears and Julie Gordon, 2-6, 6-3, 6-1, at second doubles.

Rams volleyball drops OHC match

JAMESTOWN — Fairbanks swept Greeneview, 25-17, 25-14, 25-19, in an Ohio Heritage Conference volleyball match Sept. 12. Caitlin Sweat had six kills and six digs, while Ashley Schloss had three blocks for Greeneview (8-3, 4-3 OHC).

The reserve team also lost in straight sets, 15-25, 18-25.

Cedarville golfers edge Greenon

CEDARVILLE — Noah Myers fired a 39 to lead Cedarville’s golf team to a 184-186 win over Greenon, Sept. 13. Adam Wood and Jate Bradley each shot 46 for Cedarville, which improved to 6-6 overall.

Indians sweep Mechanicsburg

CEDARVILLE — Cedarville’s volleyball team improved to 7-2 overall and 5-2 in the Ohio Heritage Conference with a 25-23, 25-22, 25-13 win over Mechanicsburg, Sept. 13. Individual stats were not available.

Bellbrook reserves lose

BELLBROOK — Milton-Union’s reserve golf team beat Bellbrook, 228-236, Sept. 13 at Homestead Golf Course.

Westin Davis shot a 57 for the Golden Eagles, while Ryan Cross and Brodi Vaughn each had 58.

CU wins G-MAC opener

COLUMBUS — The defending Great Midwest Athletic Conference champion Cedarville University Yellow Jackets opened conference play with a four-set victory Sept. 13 at Ohio Dominican.

Cedarville (2-7) ended a five-match slide with a 25-20, 25-17, 20-25, 25-15 decision. Reigning G-MAC Player of the Year Gabby Olson did the damage at the net with 19 kills and three blocks. She also served up three aces.

Lauren Willow contributed 10 kills, and Taylor Wilkerson chipped in nine. Sierra Schuitema totaled 23 assists and four service aces while Lindsey Bray added 20 assists. Krissy Pratt came up with 19 digs and Autumn Foust had 15.

The team will play at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 15 at Hillsdale (Mich.) College.

Men’s soccer wins 1-0 at Duquesne

PITTSBURGH, Pa.— The Wright State University men’s soccer team scored the lone goal early in the second half for the 1-0 win Sept. 12 at Duquesne.

The Raiders kept the pressure on the Dukes, posting eight shots with three on goal but were unable through. Joseph Grimes led WSU with two shots and one on goal as six other Raiders registered one shot each.

In the second half the Raiders dented the back of the net at 53:08 when Austin Kinley picked up his first goal of the season assisted by Florian Hoffmann and Dan Bent. Wright State ended with 16 shots overall, two from Grimes, Jalim Bayo, Stefan Rokvic and Alec Philippe. WSU goalie Joel Sundell finished with one save as the Dukes (1-4) had seven shots overall.

The Raiders will play the University of Illinois Chicago at 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 16.

Womens tennis checked first match

WESTERVILLE — Cedarville University opened the 2017-18 women’s tennis season with a 6-2 setback at Otterbein in a non-conference contest Sept. 12.

The host Cardinals quickly grabbed a 3-0 lead after doubles. In singles, freshman Liana English made her collegiate debut with an impressive 6-2, 6-3 victory at the #1 position. Audra Kearney was a winner at #4 singles by a 6-3, 1-6, 1-0 (10-4) count. Rosie Thompson won her first set at #2 singles and was trailing in the second when the match was halted by rain.

The team plays 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 19 at Ohio Wesleyan.

WSU competes at Marshall

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — The Wright State golf team competed Sept. 12 at Guyan Country Club in the Joe Feagness Marshall Invitational. The final round on Sept. 13 was called off due to rain. The team got off to a slow start, and never got any momentum throughout the 36-hole day.

“We played what I would call scared and uninspired golf today,” WSU Head Coach Brian Arlinghaus said. “I don’t think we respected the golf course, and the course won.”

The Raiders were led by Chris Rossi with rounds of 72-72=144, placing him in a tie for 24th.

Round three rained out after four holes. The Raiders finished 14th led by senior Chris Rossi. The team will play Northern Kentucky University, Sunday, Sept. 24 in Batavia.

Johnson on cross country team

ASHLAND — Ian Johnson of Beavercreek is a member of the cross country team at Ashland University. Johnson is majoring in computer science and is a graduate of Beavercreek High School.

The Ashland University cross country team competes in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC). Last year, Ashland placed second in the NCAA Division II All-Ohio Championships meet and fifth in the GLIAC Championship. The Ashland University cross country team is led by coach Jacob Sussman. The Eagles’ next meet is Friday, Sept. 15 in East Lansing, Mich. at the Michigan State University Spartan Invitational.

Fairborn, Stebbins hosting food drive

FAIRBORN — Students from Fairborn and Stebbins high schools have organized a “Football for Food” campaign to help stock food pantries in the Fairborn and Riverside areas. The food drive will take place in the days leading up to the Thursday, Sept. 28 football game between the two schools.

Pep Rallies will be held at Fairborn City Schools Sept. 12-15. The event will end with Fairborn’s Homecoming Game, which will be held at 7 p.m. Sept. 28. The food will be presented and financial donors will be recognized at halftime.
