Greenon tops Fairborn tennis

FAIRBORN — The Skyhawks dropped a 3-2 non-league tennis match to Greenon Sept. 11. Fairborn’s wins came from the No. 2 doubles team of Rita Chien and Abby Lafferty, who defeated Madison Fitch and Alex Mercuri, 6-2, 6-2; and McKayla Lyons, who beat Jasmyn Easterline, 6-2, 2-6, 7-5, at third singles.

Fairborn is 4-10 overall. It was Greenon’s first win.

Duncan nets winner for Skyhawks

FAIRBORN — Aubree Duncan scored the game’s only goal as Fairborn beat Miamisburg in girls soccer Sept. 11. The Skyhawks defense was strong in earning the team’s first shutout. Jenna Diehl made 10 saves in goal. Fairborn, 2-5, hosts Greenville at 6 p.m. Sept. 13.

Greeneview golf drops OHC match

JAMESTOWN — Springfield Catholic out-shot Greeneview, 174-177, to win an Ohio Heritage Conference golf match Sept. 11.

Mason Witt tied for medalist honors with a 36. Matt Hovan, Levi Bradds, and Eli Beekman each shot 47, while Detric Hovan shot 53, and Tye Frost 58.

Cedarville golfers edged

CEDARVILLE — London Madison Plains was two strokes better than Cedarville in a Sept. 11 golf match, winning 178-180, at Locust Hills. Adam Wood (43) and Caleb Smith (45) led Cedarville.

Bellbrook blanks Brookville

BELLBROOK — Bellbrook dropped just seven games in easily disposing of Southwestern Buckeye League tennis foe Brookville, 5-0, Sept. 11.

Andrea Szep won, 6-0, 6-1, at first singles, Shea Foster won, 6-0, 6-0, at second singles, and Anika Arora won, 6-0, 6-0, at third singles. Abby Schultz and Paige Buttery won, 6-3, 6-2, at first doubles, while Jessiva Tschant and Halie Leftwich won, 6-0, 6-1, at second doubles.

Ferris State rally bites Jackets

BIG RAPIDS, Mich. – Ferris State rebounded from an early Cedarville University goal to pull out a 2-1 non-conference women’s soccer victory on Sept. 10.

Cedarville (2-3) struck first in the 9th minute. Grace Miorelli scored her first goal of the campaign with an assist from Taylor Noll. The host Bulldogs (2-2) equalized in the 19th minute and came up with the game winner in the 76th. FSU had the advantage on the stat sheet outshooting the visitors 33-10 overall and 13-5 on goal. They also had a 7-2 edge in corner kicks. Allison Garlock stopped a career-high 11 shots in goal.

The team plays again 6:30 p.m. Sept. 14 at Kentucky Wesleyan.

Mundey shoots for Lake Erie

PAINESVILLE — The Lake Erie College women’s soccer team earned their first win of the 2017 season Sept. 11 in a non-conference matchup with the Carlow University Celtics. The Storm defeated the Celtics 1-0 after an early goal was the difference.

Lake Erie put eight more shots up in the second half but could not muster an insurance goal. The Storm finished with a 17-9 shot lead in the game, with Ashley Pryce, Ashley Mundey of Beavercreek and Peyton Frankovich each shooting three shots.

Fairborn, Stebbins hosting food drive

FAIRBORN — Students from Fairborn and Stebbins high schools have organized a “Football for Food” campaign to help stock food pantries in the Fairborn and Riverside areas. The food drive will take place in the days leading up to the Thursday, Sept. 28 football game between the two schools.

Pep Rallies will be held at Fairborn City Schools Sept. 12-15. The event will end with Fairborn’s Homecoming Game, which will be held at 7 p.m. Sept. 28. The food will be presented and financial donors will be recognized at halftime.

Learn-To-Row class Friday

MORAINE — The Dayton Boat Club adult rowing program will host its learn-to-row class Friday through Sunday, Sept. 15-17, at the club’s boathouse on East River Road.

The three-session on-water class covers terminology, safety, stroke technique, equipment use and care, and sweep rowing in an eight-oared racing shell. Sessions are 6-8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 15; 9-11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 16; and 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 17. The course is $100 per person, which is deducted from a rower’s seasonal dues if he or she joins the novice team following the course. Each participant should wear comfortable but not loose-fitting exercise clothes and bring a water bottle, a pair of socks and a small towel.
