CEDARVILLE — Cedarville University has been selected to win its sixth consecutive Great Midwest Athletic Conference women’s cross country title in the 2017 preseason poll presented by Under Armour.

The voting was conducted by the league’s head women’s cross country coaches. The G-MAC is yet to have a men’s or women’s cross country team champion other than Cedarville, since 2012.

The Yellow Jackets grabbed 10 of a possible 13 first-place votes and racked up 152 points.

Aside from winning the G-MAC trophy in 2016, CU was the region runner-up, and placed 11th at the NCAA Division II Championship.

Hillsdale College, one of five newcomers to the conference, took two top votes and 143 points while Malone University has the remaining first-place vote and 136 points. Completing the top five are Walsh University (130 points) and Trevecca Nazarene University (107).

“We’re excited for the upcoming season. We have several seniors and I’m looking forward to how they will lead this team. As always, we’ll try to prepare well. We hope to be healthy and will do our best to peak at the end of the season,” said Cedarville coach Jeff Bolender.

Graduated Yellow Jacket Olivia Esbenshade was named the 2016 G-MAC Cross Country Runner of the Year. Carsyn Koch, Kayla Casaletto, Olivia Kundo and Christy Jesson are all back for Cedarville.

Trevecca will host the G-MAC Championship, Oct. 21 in Nashville, Tenn.

Cedarville University’s Elvin R. King Cross Country Course will be the site of the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional on Nov. 4. The event is the first-ever Division II regional the Yellow Jackets have hosted in any sport. More than 30 D-II schools from the region will participate, with the top-three teams qualifying for the NCAA Championship.
