Buccaneers edge Fairborn
FAIRBORN — Xenia claimed a 184-213 boys high school golf win on Aug. 17 over Greater Western Ohio Conference, American South foe Fairborn. Trey Boedicker led Fairborn with a 50 on the Twin Base golf course. Tanner Souders (51), Giana Pico (55) and Adam Pelfrey (57) also turned in scores for the Skyhawks (0-1, 0-1 GWOC South). There were no scores turned in by Xenia, now 1-2 overall, 1-0 GWOC South. The Bucs are listed back in action on Wednesday, Aug. 23 for a 4 p.m. match with GWOC South foe Riverside Stebbins, at Kitty Hawk Golf Course.
Dragons’ Siri named Midwest All-Star
DAYTON — Dayton Dragons outfielder Jose Siri was selected as one of three outfielders on the Midwest League’s 2017 full-season all-star team. Siri is currently batting .296 with 19 home runs, 61 runs batted in, and 39 stolen bases. He ranks among the league leaders in nearly every offensive category.
Siri produced a 39-game hitting streak from June 22-August 3 that broke the Midwest League record that had stood for 40 years (previous record was 35, by Waterloo’s Tony Toups in 1977). With 17 games to play, Siri needs one home run and one stolen base to become the first Midwest League player since 1982 to collect 20 home runs and 40 stolen bases in a season. Siri was also named in Baseball America’s survey of Midwest League managers as the “Best Defensive Outfielder” and “Fastest Baserunner” in the league.
Siri becomes the 18th player in Dragons history to be selected to the Midwest League full-season all-star team and the first position player since Billy Hamilton in 2011. The team was selected through a vote of Midwest League managers.
CSU football fan appreciation day, Aug. 19
WILBERFORCE — The Central State football team will hold Fan Appreciation Day at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 19 at McPherson Memorial Stadium. Admission is free to the public with the gates opening at 12:30 p.m.
Marauder fans will be able to view the 2017 team as CSU competes against in an inter-squad scrimmage. The CSU Athletic Department will supply 2017 football schedule posters to all who attend. Fans are also encouraged to stop by the CSU Sports Information table for details on tickets and upcoming events throughout the 2017-2018 school year.
In addition to the action on the field, the Invincible Marching Marauders will be performing in the stands for the first time this season.
Throughout the event, fans who are followers of the CSU athletics’ official twitter, Facebook and Instagram accounts will be randomly selected for prizes. Fans must follow CSU on its official athletic social media pages to be eligible to win.
Gathering of the Geezers, Aug. 19
XENIA — The annual Gathering of the Geezers, old-time drag races, car show, hall of fame awards, and swap meet will take place Saturday, Aug. 19 at Kil-Kare Dragway, 1166 Dayton-Xenia Road. Gates open at 9 a.m. Time runs start at 10 a.m. with racing set to begin at 3 p.m. Tech is closed at 2 p.m.

Reds hosting College Weekend
CINCINNATI — Reds fans can show their school pride by purchasing a special ticket package to celebrate College Weekend on Aug. 25-27 at Great American Ball Park.
Each package includes an exclusive Reds cap branded with the school colors and logo of the fan’s choice. This year’s participating schools are: University of Cincinnati; Xavier University; Thomas More College; University of Dayton; University of Kentucky; and Northern Kentucky University (SOLD OUT)

Fall basketball league at Beavercreek
BEAVERCREEK — The Beavercreek High School girls basketball program will be hosting its 18th annual girls basketball fall league. The games will be played on Sunday afternoons Sept. 10 through Oct. 22. All teams will play seven games on five Sundays with no games Sept. 17-24.
The league will have 12 high school teams ninth through 12th grade. There will be 8-10 girls per team, with only two players from each school on the same team. HALO 5K Fun Run/Walk set
XENIA — The inaugural Helping Animals Lost & Orphaned (HALO) 5K Fun Run/Walk will be held 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 2 at Caesar Creek Vineyards LLC, 962 Long Road. Check-in and same-day registration will take place at 8:30 a.m.

Learn-To-Row class, Sept. 15-17
MORAINE — The Dayton Boat Club adult rowing program will host its learn-to-row class Friday through Sunday, Sept. 15-17, at the club’s boathouse on East River Road.
The three-session on-water class covers terminology, safety, stroke technique, equipment use and care, and sweep rowing in an eight-oared racing shell.
Sessions are 6-8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 15; 9-11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 16; and 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 17. The course is $100 per person, which is deducted from a rower’s seasonal dues if he or she joins the novice team following the course. Each participant should wear comfortable but not loose-fitting exercise clothes and bring a water bottle, a pair of socks and a small towel. Buddies program returns
DAYTON — The Dayton Dragons Kroger Baseball Buddy program is back for the 2017 season. Kids 7-13 can enter for a chance to run onto Fifth Third Field alongside the Dragons players.
The experience includes: Hanging out in the dugout during pre-game to meet the Dragons players; Getting autographs and photos with the Dragons team; Being introduced over the PA like a player; Running out on the field with the team before that day’s game. Baseball Buddies will also receive several gifts including a replica Dragons jersey, a Dragons baseball hat, a drawstring backpack, and Dragons pen and baseball to be autographed. CINCINNATI — The Cincinnati Reds will host African American Community Night at Great American Ball Park 7:10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 25, when they take on the Pittsburgh Pirates.

CINCINNATI — The annual “Sliding into Om” one-hour yoga session will be held at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 26 on the outfield grass at Great American Ball Park .
