XENIA — The Discovery Channel’s drag racing show Street Outlaws will race several of the area’s best on Thursday, July 6 at Kil-Kare Dragway, it was announced recently over the Fourth of July holiday.

A pair of frequent members of the Steet Outlaws show’s ‘405 List’ of top underground drag racers hailing from the Oklahoma City, Okla. area — Mike Murillo and Jackie Knox — will be at Kil-Kare to make several drag race passes and meet with fans.

Murillo, a multiple NMCA/NMRA champion, will be one of the series’ racers. He pilots a blue Ford Mustang affectionately known as “LaFawnduh.” Murillo and the speedy Mustang are frequently seen racing on the Street Outlaws TV series.

“This will be a homecoming for Mike, as he is a Springfield native who relocated to San Antonio, Texas a number of years ago,” said Kil-Kare manager Will Tharpe. “He’s excited to be able to come back home and see his family, and get a chance to meet with some of the fans.”

Regular Street Outlaws competitor Jackie Knox will drive the famed 1996 GMC Sonoma S10, a drag race truck that spent a lot of time atop The List, a ranking of the top Oklahoma City heads up drag racers.

The Sonoma drag racing truck was first made famous by Outlaws competitor David “Daddy Dave” Comstock, who frequently put the truck at the top of the List. According to Dragzine.com, Knox recently converted the Sonoma’s engine from a 434 cubic inch nitrous oxide powerplant, to a 540 cubic inch Chevrolet big block engine with a belt-driven blower in a blow-through carburetor combination. Knox hopes to return the famed Sonoma to the top of the 405 List.

“Jackie is now at the controls of his own creation and will be making passes on Thursday, and then meeting with some of our local fans,” Tharpe said.

Kil-Kare Dragway’s gates open at 3 p.m., with on-track racing action set to begin at approximately 5 p.m.

Admission is $20 for adults. Kids 12 & under get in for $10 each, and carloads of fans can get in for $50.

There will be no Test & Tune session on the Kil-Kare Raceway oval, but a Test & Tune on the 1/8-mile drag strip will take place. Tech cards for the dragway Test & Tune will be $25.
