Bellbrook blasts Valley View
GERMANTOWN — The Bellbrook girls varsity softball team defeated Southwestern Buckeye League rival Valley View, 14-2, May 10 in Division II sectional tournament play. The Golden Eagles had seven hits. Kaley Clark went 3-for-5 at the plate, Sam Seubert had a double and two walks, and Catie Wentworth had a solid squeeze bunt. Clark completed the game for the win, with four strikeouts.

XHS Class of ‘73 golf outing June 17
XENIA — The fifth PLAY IT FORWARD golf outing/scholarship fundraiser, hosted by the Xenia High School Class of 1973, is scheduled for Saturday June 17 at Sebastian Hills Golf Club. Golf registration includes a light breakfast, a full picnic-style lunch and beverages, in addition to prizes and raffles. The event is open to the public with an early registration discount applied until June 1.
The goal of the fundraiser and scholarship award is to give back to current XHS graduates in need. The Class of ’73 will award its fourth $4,000 scholarship to a deserving 2017 XHS graduate at the Awards Assembly in May. Scholarship monies are acquired from hole sponsorship ($100), title sponsors (ranging from $250 – $1,000), monetary/gift donations and, of course, golfers. Recent outings have been attended by graduates representing XHS classes from 1968 through 2004, in addition to several of our scholarship recipients.

Jamestown Chamber golf outing in May
JAMESTOWN — The annual Jamestown Chamber of Commerce golf outing will take place Friday, May 19 at Sebastian Hills Golf Course, 1100 Knoll Haven Rd. in Xenia. The outing will start at 11 a.m., with registration opening at 10am. Come early to take advantage of the free driving range and putting green privileges, as well as getting a hot dog or two courtesy of Countryside Propane
Participants will be able to enjoy beverages and snacks, courtesy of the Chamber, and when the golf is over Kelley’s Café will be providing all participants and volunteers a wonderful meal at the golf course. The deadline for registration is Friday, May 12.
The annual golf outing is the main fundraising activity for the Jamestown Area Chamber of Commerce which allows the Chamber to provide various activities, programs and scholarships to the Jamestown and surrounding communities.
Tornadoes football fundraiser, May 12
XENIA — The Xenia Tornadoes semi-professional football team will host a fundraiser from 5-9 p.m. Friday May 12 at the Chipotle restaurant at 1620 West Park Square. Tell the cashier that you’re supporting the team and 50 percent of the proceeds will be donated to the Xenia Tornadoes semi-pro football team.
Buddies program returns
DAYTON — Have you ever wanted to run onto Fifth Third Field alongside the Dayton Dragons? Visit your local Kroger store to sign up for a chance to be a Baseball Buddy. Kids (ages 7-13) who are randomly selected as winners. To enter, look for the display at your local Kroger store at the Customer Service Desk.
The Kroger Baseball Buddies experience includes: Hanging out in the dugout during pre-game to meet the Dragons players; Getting autographs and photos with the Dragons team; Being introduced over the PA like a player; Running out on the field with the team before that day’s game. Youth football camp
WILBERFORCE — The annual Central State University Youth Skills Football Camp will take place Thursday, June 15 on the CSU campus. The Central State University Department of Athletics is committed to providing an exceptional camp experience for campers of all ages and skill levels. Campers will have the opportunity to learn more about the sport of football from CSU coaches & players while improving their skills. The camp is open to youth ages 7-15. Cost is $30 per individual. Registration deadline is June 12, but walk-up registration will be welcomed on the day of the camp.

SW Ohio Track practices start
YELLOW SPRINGS — The Southwest Ohio Track Club summer program starts on May 30 at Yellow Springs High School. The practices are Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. A host of meets will take place this summer.
Practices for 7-12 year olds: 5-6 p.m.
Practices for 13 and older: 6-7:30 p.m.
The SWOTC includes elementary, middle school, high school, post collegiate and master athletes. All are welcome. The SWOTC is a tax exempt and sanctioned program. BEAVERCREEK — Grab those fishing poles, bait and tackle and head over from 8-11:30 a.m. May 20 to Phillips Park (new location this year), 2132 Dayton-Xenia Road.
Beavercreek Parks, Recreation & Culture and McAfee Heating & Air are sponsoring the ninth annual Fishing Derby. Mister C will take the stage at 10:30 a.m. to do a Hair Raising Science program. Prizes will be awarded at 11 a.m. to the child who catches the smallest, largest and most fish. No pre-registration is required for this free event.
