Fairborn falls at Dixie

NEW LEBANON — The Fairborn and Dixie tennis teams were able to get four of the five varsity matches in the books before the rains began to fall on Monday, April 3. Unfortunately for the Skyhawks, they were once again on the wrong side of a 4-0 decision, with Dixie in control of the lone remaining match as well.

Tyler Fillback lost 1-6 and 3-6 at first singles. Eli Smith played at the No. 2 singles spot and fell 0-6 and 0-6. At No. 3 singles Harry Huynh fell 0-6 and 1-6.

Playing first doubles were Shayla Murray and Heidi Wahlstrom and the duo lost 1-6, 0-6. Corynn Spahr and Mary Shaw lost their first set 2-6 at No. 2 doubles and were down 1-3 when the rains came forcing an end to the match.

In JV action, Dylan Uptgraft was teamed with Eli Smith and they were ahead 4-3 in doubles action. Austin Suther was trailing 2-4 as the rains came to end his singles match.

Recruiting seminar today

XENIA — The Xenia athletic dept will be holding a FREE recruiting seminar at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday April 5: “Guiding the College-Bound Athlete” put on by Dynamite Sports. Parents of athletes grades 7-12 are encouraged to attend. This seminar will cover NCAA Division I to small-college opportunities for athletes. The seminar will inform parents and athletes how to get recruited, how to get scholarships, how to setup visits to schools, and when to get started. Each family that attends will receive a ACT/SAT Prep DVD. Parents and athletes from other districts are welcome as well!

Heckman HL Field Athlete of the Week

INDIANAPOLIS — Sophomore Maria Heckman of the Wright State University track team has been selected as the Horizon League Field Athlete of the Week, it was announced on Tuesday, April 4 by the league office.

Heckman (Minster) set a school record in the pole vault at the Miami Duals on April 1 as she cleared a distance of 3.65 meters, winning the competition over 11 other competitors. That broke her previous school record of 3.64 meters that she set at the Ball State Challenge on April 16, 2016.

Along with her top performance in the pole vault, Heckman ran the team’s fourth-best time this season in the 100-meter dash and is a part of the top 400-meter relay team.

The track team returns to action at the All-Ohio Championships, April 14-15 in Cincinnati.

CSU Auxiliary Corps clinics, auditions

WILBERFORCE — The Central State University Auxiliary Corps will hold clinics and auditions for their cheerleading, mascot, dancers, color guard/flags, majorettes (baton) and banner girls in April. CSU is seeking individuals who will excel in academics, set high standards of character and behavior for the student body, as well as represent the student body as entertaining squads, stimulate school spirit, grow, bond and unite in spirit as a team.

Xenia taking Hall nominations

XENIA — The Xenia Athletic Hall of Fame committee is now accepting nominations for its 2017 induction class. An individual, team, coach or a community contributor can be nominated. These nominations can be for those athletes, teams, coaches, and community contributors who were associated with Xenia Central, Xenia High School, Xenia East, and/or Spring Valley.

Nominations will be considered from all eras. The last day for the committee to accept nominations will be April 26. Forms can be obtained by going to the Xenia Community Schools official website www.xenia.k12.oh.us/, then to the Athletics link, and then to the Athletic Hall of Fame link. Skyhawks fall to Coy

BEAVERCREEK — Fairborn lost to Beavercreek Coy, 7-1, on Monday April 3. Fairborn pitching had an off night giving up 16 free passes (13 walks and three hit batters). Fairborn gave up six unearned runs. Coy’s pitcher threw a solid game and the defense backed up their pitching. Fairborn was limited to four hits, one walk, one hit batter and struck out eight times in a rain-shortened five-inning game. Cameron Cotterman lead the offense going 2-for-2 with a double and a RBI. Cohen Bowman and Blake Huffman each had a single.

Fairborn Columbia falls to 2-1.

Beavercreek Fastpitch signups

BEAVERCREEK — Signups for the 2017 Beavercreek Fastpitch softball season continue, with practice for 8U, 10U and 12U leagues set to begin in April. Registration forms were sent home with Beavercreek students in first through fifth grade. Middle school and high school students can still obtain registration forms in their school offices. Practice for Beavercreek Fastpitch 14U and 18U league teams will begin after the scholastic softball season has ended, in approximately mid-May.

Beavercreek adult softball

BEAVERCREEK — Beavercreek Parks, Recreation, and Culture Department is currently accepting registrations for Summer Adult Softball for coed and men’s teams.

For fees and times contact the parks department. The league fees include team sanctioning, softballs, umpire fees, and awards. The season runs from April 17 to July 25 with all games played at Rotary Park. Lions Club league signups online

BELLBROOK — The Bellbrook Lions Club would like to announce registrations for the summer baseball, softball and T-ball programs for children ages 6-15. Parents may register their children by visiting the Lion’s Club sports website at www.bellbrooklionssports.org.

The program will begin with practices in the month of April, with games beginning in May. Softball practice will begin in May, with games ending in mid July.

Tai Chi classes offered

BEAVERCREEK — Improve your health, balance and manage stress by enrolling in Beginning Tai Chi for Health and Wellness class offered by Beavercreek Parks, Recreation & Culture. Tai Chi is an ancient Chinese tradition that, today is practiced as a graceful form of exercise. It involves a series of movements performed in a slow, focused manner and accompanied by deep breathing. Class is scheduled for Wednesdays, April 5 – May 13, 6-7 p.m. at C. I. Beaver Hall, 3696 Highmont Street. Fee is $45 for residents; $52 for non-residents.

Skyhawks-Beavers to play at Fifth Third Field

DAYTON — Greater Western Ohio Conference and Greene County foes Fairborn and Beavercreek will play each other at Dayton’s Fifth Third Field, the regular home of the Dayton Dragons professional minor league baseball team, in a 1 p.m. afternoon contest on Saturday, April 22.

Another GWOC matchup is scheduled to follow the Beavercreek-Fairborn contest: Greenville and West Carrollton are slated to play at 4 p.m.

All games are free to attend. Gates will open 30 minutes prior to the first game played that day. High schools may provide their own public address announcers, broadcasters, cheer squads, and national anthem singers.

Dragon’s tickets on sale for BHS Baseball

DAYTON — The Dayton Dragons are selling $12 game tickets to help support the Beavercreek High School baseball program.
