Ram bowlers fall in opener

JAMESTOWN — In the first match for both teams, Springfield Catholic Central handed a co-ed Greeneview Rams team of Grace Lucas, Anna Willingham, Crystal Turner, Steven Ross and Adam Schornak an 1,819 – 1,251 loss, Tuesday at Victory Lanes.

The five Rams won the second Baker Game, 146-135. Schornak led the team with a 334 two-game series, while Lucas and Ross both turned in 242s.

Shelton named G-MAC volleyball AOW

CEDARVILLE — Cedarville senior Abby Shelton is the Great Midwest Athletic Conference’s Volleyball Athlete of the Week after leading the Yellow Jackets to the 2016 tournament championship last week.

The 5-foot-11 outside hitter from Sparta, Ga. averaged 3.88 kills and 4.0 digs as top-seeded Cedarville defeated Malone and Davis & Elkins (W.Va.) to the win the G-MAC Tournament.

The women’s volleyball team (26-8) earned its first-ever bid to the NCAA Division II Championship with the tournament win.

In eight sets played, Shelton added six service aces and two blocks. She was also 33-for-35 in the serve reception department for a .943 accuracy.

Cedarville is currently riding a four-match winning streak. The Jackets have also won 10 of their last 11 contests.

Bain men’s hoops Athlete of the Week

CEDARVILLE — Yellow Jacket guard Patrick Bain has been chosen the Great Midwest Conference’s Men’s Basketball Athlete of the Week for his play in games held Nov. 14-20.

The 6-foot-3 junior from Tipp City came off the bench to average 15 points and six rebounds as Cedarville split two non-conference regional games.

Bain contributed 13 points and four rebounds in a 78-73 home setback to Walsh.

He then totaled 17 points and eight boards to lead the Jackets to a 73-61 victory at Northwood.

For the week, Bain made 12-of-19 shots from the field for 63 percent including 3-of-4 outside the arc. He converted 3-of-6 free throws to go along with two assists and two steals.

The Yellow Jackets have one more non-conference region contest this week, when they travel to play Findlay on Saturday.

Upcoming events

Indians hosting Hunger Game food drive

CEDARVILLE – A food drive to offset a hunger concern in Clark and Greene Counties will culminate Friday, Dec. 2, when Springfield Emmanuel Christian Academy tips off against host Cedarville High School.

The varsity boys basketball game begins at 7 p.m.

Cedarville and Emmanuel Christian are competing to see which school collects the most food for “The Hunger Game” on Dec. 2. Residents can drop off food donations at each school beginning Monday, Nov. 28, until Thursday, Dec. 1. The amount collected will be announced at the basketball game between the two rivals.

In support of the effort, Cedarville University designed T-shirts for the drive that will be sold by each school. All of the money from the sales, anticipated to be $300, will be given to their local food pantries.

The food collected by Emmanuel Christian Academy will be given to the Clark County Food Pantry. Cedarville High School will donate its food to the Cedarville United Presbyterian Church food pantry.
